DANUBE RIVER - Sailing up the Wachau Valley on the Danube and Exploring Dürnstein Castle Ruins

The Wachau Cultural Landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located between the Austrian cities of Krems and Melk. It features castles, medieval cities, and a landscape known for the productions of fine wines.
In this episode we sail up the Danube River aboard AMAWaterway's flagship, AMAMagna. After seeing the valley from the water, we return to the historic town of Dürnstein and climb the hill to the ruins of Dürnstein Castle. The castle was once used to imprison King Richard I of England (Richard the Lionhearted) after he was captured by Leopold V, Duke of Austria when returning from the Third Crusade. The castle was left in ruins by the Swedish Empire in 1645.

Nice cruise , I just finished a river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam, 17 days in October last year , we had low water for one day on a bus but other than that very nice trip . It’s the way to go as far as I’m concerned, no hassles and great food and accommodation on “Scenic Cruise Line” Ciao

We figured we should do the hiking while we can. Never know what our health will be like in the future. I caught some sort of bug on the plane over and was very congested for much of the trip so you can hear me breathing heavy on the hike, more than usual anyway. :)
