hi Dan.what are the preconfigured IP addresses for the routers?are there static routes there?thank you
@chrisgast
@chrisgast 4 жыл бұрын
In other words, if it's a global address, it's a publicly assigned address (per the ISPs). If it's a local address, it's a privately assigned address. Inside means it's your network. Outside means it's someone else's network.

Nevermind. I had posted something about you putting the wrong router. I was wrong. I was using ? to see the command options as I followed along, and when you do ip nat inside source . . . it doesn't show those commands from the interface prompt, and it won't read the command unless it's completed all the way. When it's fully completed, then it reads the command and applies it. I assume this is a convenience function, and that the command is normally done from the configuration prompt, not from the interface prompt. I assume that normally the interface prompt requires that one types the ip nat inside command, and then backs out to the configuration prompt and types the ip nat inside source ..... command. And I presume this is why in the show run, running configuration, it shows ip nat inside at the interface and ip nat inside source ...... in the general configuration after all of the interfaces are listed.

Hi Sir. thanks for the super clear video, I've got a question about the g0/0. Because we have two public ip addresses, we don't need to have two network interfaces? Also I ask you why in the static translation setup we need to write first the private ip address if the request comes from the "outside" ip address, the translate doesn't should be from external to internal because of the request?

Does the "Cloud" do anything in this exercise or it just representing the Internet? It has no config and sits on the cross over cable. Im troubleshooting connectivty between the two routers as it barks about interfaces not being on same network and dropping packets

Well never mind. If you put the wrong mask and no gateway on honeypot, all sorts of chaos reigns.. Gateways and masks are the basics and should e checked first before thinking you have a more lofty issue.

In the video you do an example of NAT conversion only on port 80. How would you go about testing that the NAT config ONLY converts port 80 requests? Debug command? Or can it be done with the "virtual" PCs in the Packet Tracer program?

Easy try reaching the same ip address using https which will test port 443 and it will fail without a translation rule

Hi I tried to set static nat using outside instead of inside, but it is not working if IP order is swapped in relevance of outside point of view. I expected that if outside is used then first must be public IP and then must be local IP. Why IP order is the same regardless of using inside or outside key word in nat command?
