Hope you enjoyed guys! We never thought we'd love graffiti so much. Which bit of the Hospital Of St Cross did you find most interesting? 🤔

The transition architecture and historical graffiti. I loved the little man carved out in the tower at the watch window, but how they used solar placement of the cross to be illuminated twice a year was fascinating. 🙏

The peace and beauty of this place is abundant. I loved everything about it and my favorites were the gardens and that wonderful stone sink with the old pump. How I would love to visit on the same sort of beautiful day!

Indeed, 87, but not enough about the real "going on's". If ya not sure, i'm talking about gluttony, flagellence, buggery, debauchery in general, the VERY THING they were supposed to be railing against. And in the odd case, fratricide. If Alice is a proper historian, not just a presenter, she will know all this, but i fancy it's the dreaded producers, who'll have the say. That would be the bane of genuine historians, not being able to tell the full story.

As a junior audit clerk, I was assigned to audit the books of St Cross. That would have been about 1971. "Don't blot the books with your green ink." This documentary has taught me more than I ever knew of the institution.

Alice Loxton is an incredible presenter, I absolutely adore her humour and the ability she has to teach with such excitement and enthusiasm, without being condescending. She is one of the sole reasons I'm considering actually paying for this subscription. Thank you Alice for going on such adventures and bringing us along with you!! Ps. Shout out to those little jokes within the segments like the parrot sound, that are almost blink if you miss it but are brilliant and 100% quippy!

Thank you Alice, very informative. My 6th grandfather David fled France arriving in England in 1686 with his family although needs must they travelled separately, it was dangerous times. Having settled in Londres he was apprenticed as a clockmaker, the profession followed by his father and grandfather. He moved to Winchester upon completing his apprenticeship and made the great clock that hangs over the High Street in Winchester. Although the workings of the clock have been renewed a few times it is in good part some 310 plus years old. A watch of his made around 1702 is held in the British Museum. A relation of David's was christened in St. Cross in March 1796. I often go to the Hospital for a scrummy afternoon tea!

Fascinating and beautifully filmed . My Aunt and Uncle were married at the church of St Cross , in the sixties. In the early 80,s I would stay with my friends mother, who was a matron at the site. I had no idea about the connection with Keats, and St Cross . He was another relative of our family , so thank you for your comprehensive and entertaining programme 👏👏.

Another fascinating snapshot of English history, brilliantly presented by Alice Loxton. She is one of the most engaging and compelling hosts of any history video out there. Her enthusiasm is infectious and she seems genuinely eager to learn something new about each historic site, along with the viewer. I love the glint in her eyes and wide eyed expression when she reveals a particularly unusual or quirky fact, as if she is just as delighted by the knowledge as we are. (see 9:15)

Wow what a beautiful place and what a beautiful lady to tell us about it. And look, behold a perfect feminine goddess without a single stain to mar her, no garish modern style, nor a single tattoo, feminine perfection you simply can’t undo. Here we see beauty without excessive makeup and a crown of free flowing hair never ruined just blowing in the cool English air . Our goddess adorned in the lightest of dresses that swing and sway as she shows us the way our ancestors behaved. Alice our guild with the light in her eyes filled with wonder tells us no lies, please give us more with your brightest of smiles, tell us some more of what came before. WFP

I’d love a place like this for autistic people of all ages. Really the whole country needs something like this? Not to be like the work houses of old. But a sanctuary away from the rest of the worlds ills. I’m sure there’s a few place around the country that fit the bill? Old country houses? Former abbey’s and priory’s. even old castles would fit the bill! Duty honour and service. Grand old buildings could serve a purpose?
