00:30 Course Objectives 01:40 What's the purpose of a database? Multiple: 1) Store data 2) Organizational structure 3) Mechanism for CRUD 04:30 Problems with storing data in lists: redundancy and multiple themes. 08:00 Modification issues arise in lists. "Update anomalies" 13:00 What is a relational database? Store data in a table composed of columns and rows. Columns represent attributes of an entity and each row represents an entity. 14:50 Each informational theme is stored in its own table. e.g. A project table and a customer table. 17:56 The Structured Query Language (SQL): the primary tool for performing CRUD operations. 20:25 SELECT statement allows us to combine tables together. 22:55 Four components of a DB system: 1) Users - people or other software programs 2) DB Applications - programs that rely on the DB (e.g. a website forum) 3) DBMS - controls and administrates the DB (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) 4) DB - the database itself where the raw data is stored 32:50 Types of Database Systems: - Personal DB system (e.g. Microsoft Access) - Enterprise level DB system (What we'll be focusing on)

This is hands down the best tutorial I've found so far! It's maybe the one tutorial that actually takes the time to explain the reasoning behind databases and their structures instead of delving in in the middle and leaving you stranded. Also love how complex ideas are broken down by real world examples, makes it very easy to relate to. Thanks so much!!
