Yeah, unfortunately some of the other narrators were very grating to hear. Although I appreciate the effort, the narrator during Cantos 30-34 (the ending) reads every single line with the same tone of voice, as if she doesn't understand the meaning of the words. Another narrator earlier in the book had audio quality issues that made it hard to hear. A good narrator is priceless, but since these are public domain volunteer audios, you get what you pay for in some regards.

Bruce J Cori Samuel does not read the entire work. Also Dente was male and it is read in his perspective so by that assumption when I read this to myself I typically think of it having a male voice. In which both males and females read the entire work.

Such a good book. It's a shame some people interpret it as Christian gore when many of the punishments suffered by the sinners were meant to reflect how they, through their actions, torture themselves and yearn to be righted for their sins. They yearn for what they fear...
@ishmaelforester9825
@ishmaelforester9825 Жыл бұрын
But remember, Dante was a Roman Imperialist in principle who grew up in and knew a world with comparable brutality daily as he imagines in Inferno. The idea of hell as a dungeon of torture inflicted by a vengeful Lord of Hosts would have seemed far more reasonable to him, make no mistake. We're relatively soft and tender. He's a genius old post but hardly as feint of heart as we tend.

Beautiful to listen to the translation, very well done. Sadly, it loses the beautifulness of the original written language. As an Italian I consider myself lucky to be able to read the Divine Comedy in original language, but even if you just learnt Italian as a second or third language, you should try to read the original one.

I shall succeed my dearest Anastacia (Resurrection); my Twin Flame Soul; my dearest Eve. I am mounted firmly upon thy Cross. And I shall die. For the my Tribulation is near its end. Then we shall again be in Divine Union as Elohim~

Too bad that the nethermost circles are ruined by such a crappy reading - that almost chanting quality is quite annoying!

It's not just you. Poetic prose has come a very long way in the past few centuries.

Thank you readers. Sad that in the comments no one recognized Dante wasn't writing a poem but a vision. There are 14 levels of Hell, and 14 levels of Heaven. The Holy Spirit is the only guide in these. Praise to YHWH!

Thank god this is Longfellows translation. My favourite. Just paid 3 tokens 4 the 3 parts on audible and it's weirdly modern. Dramatised so it's great but I can't read along with my copies.
