Hey Dan. Just wondering why you transferred Amex points to Qantas to book a Classic Rewards seat on Emirates? Why not transferring to Skywards and booking through Emirates? was it less points or less taxes this way? I usually book via Qantas anyway, my Amex earns Qantas points directly and all my spending is in one basket (Qantas) but I am looking to diversify it a bit. Thinking of getting Amex membership point earning CC, so for example I could transfer to Skywards for example as most of my flights are Business on Emirates anyway, I was expecting some extra perks some how like less points or less taxes, but seeing your video made me wonder. Can you please give your insight? Thanks heaps :)

I was once lucky enough to get upgraded to Emirates First Class from Business at the gate in Dubai, on the second leg of a journey from London to Bangkok for work. Unfortunately whilst I was overjoyed to be upgraded (and no idea why), the timing wasn't ideal. I had "overindulged" at the lounge and then during the flight from London to Dubai, with the grand plan of simply sleeping it off on the red-eye to Bangkok. But now I was in First class for the first time, so I had to obviously over-indulge again! I loved it but not the hangover! Having said that, there's no way I'd ever pay for it unless I became extremely wealthy. It's not enough of an upgrade in how you ultimately feel getting off the flight to justify the expense over business. It's like the champagne they serve you - do you ultimately really enjoy the $300 bottle more than the $50 bottle you'd get in business?

@MG-ot2yr Жыл бұрын
That's good shopping, but generally a really long haul flight would cost you much less flying first class commercially vs. a private charter jet, mainly due to the aircraft needed for a long haul...a small private jet couldn't do it, unless you don't mind fuel stops. Now a short or medium haul there could be a price point there.

Hi, Nonstop! It was way back on 4/1/23 but I flew EK first class from DXB to IAD in the seat you had in this video . Overall an excellent experience tho' the price was pretty stunning. I paid cash for my ticket so I did have a limo from my hotel to the airport, but the entry/check-in/to-the-gate/boarding experience was very un-first class, especially the boarding experience at the gate...very chaotic (on this same trip I had flown Qatar A-350 business from IAD to Doha and had an impressive ground experience on arrival in Doha). Service was good and food was ok but not the super good experience I was looking forward to in my first ever Emirates flight. I'll go get a second job, save some money, and fly EK again! Thanks for your honest reporting.

@@samkelly3655 admittedly no direct experience here, but La Premiere is generally considered the best all-around ground experience (and in the air is a competitive F product)... can't redeem points for it now unless you're Flying Blue Platinum, or luck out on a day-of-departure upgrade offer from business (and at least the business class product on the flights that have La Premiere is also a reasonable consolation prize).
@markwaite5265 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for another quality video Dan. I struggle to understand EK's use of Concourse C for its flagship services - and FRA is surely up there with other premium European destinations. I fully understand your preference of the Concourse B F Lounge over the Concourse C F lounge, but this is really what necessitated the 20min walk to the gate - and probably led to you arriving after dedicated premium boarding had completed. If you'd been flying from Concourse A or the F side of Concourse B you'd have been using direct boarding from the Lounge. In short, if EK did depart its flagship services from A/F Lounge side B then it would only need your suggested buggies for the "lesser premium routes". I can hear the outcry from some "but that leads to inconsistencies" - yes it does however I think that EK already have those in abundance (OK, maybe not as many as its ME oneWorld rival!!) but to my mind those are already evident in the three-tier quality F Lounges and the distinct different hard-product discrepancies of F between the A380 and the B777. Maybe cause for another video (and more excuses for you to fly EK First!!)

I flew London Heathrow to Tokyo (via Dubai) on Emirates in 2019 and was lucky enough to have this for one leg. Thankfully my return flights were only in the region of £4-5k (and not paid for by me!) and that leg is the one I remember most fondly. If only they could also somehow fit the A380 shower in the 777 this would be perfection. In 2019 WiFi was included so it's a shame to see this go. But still, I would absolutely love to fly the 777 1st class again, but unfortunately I think it was a once in a life time chance. Also worth noting is that next to the power socket there is also a HDMI socket - so you can plug your laptop in to work with two screens, or do as I did and plug in my switch to play Mario Kart!

It almost feels like a movie, and time flies by :) I also had a ver specific question: As I understand, you self fund all your tickets (so there's no sponsoring), and you do it by using airmiles. I just don't really understand how these work. Is there a way of getting miles, and being able to use them on several airlines, or you have to follow a specific airlines' miles program, only being able to spend them with that specific airline ? I am fond of aviation, and everything that revolves around it, but these airmiles remain a kind of mystery fro me.

When we landed at Dubai from ZRH, we were treated by a man wearing a black suit and tie that commandeered a grandiose golf cart and drove us to fast-track immigration. Even though the chauffer-drive is for paid first class, we got it for $50 USD to the Waldorf-Astoria on Palm Jumeriah. We also arranged to have us driven back to the airport in chauffer-drive riding in a BMW sport wagon. By far, the best flight of my life. I used 180000 Alaska miles and $124.00 for taxes and fees.
