Bingo. The end result for people who don't get over when the signs start saying in my area is simple. People who don't get over during the "zipper" zone, they end up sitting still some nice person lets them in. I've been in both situations. Mostly, it's the big trucks in the USA that do this but I normally pace the big rigs, hagging off it's rear corner. All they are trying to do is get people to merge and keep everything moving, but many don't and wait till they get to the end and try to FORCE their way into traffic. I leave enough room in front of me so when the big truck has to get over, he's got a spot. Oh, and on most days, I'm not in a nice mood so if you are one of those who wait to the last minute to cut over, good luck, I don't move. :-) Cheers.

If the que is coming to a merge, then the guys slipping by on the right lane would be the guys rolling up to the front and diving in at the last minute, when there's a line of people neatly in order waiting patiently and FAIRLY for their turn. @@bobbysolo5411 You're actually wrong on both counts. Firstly, that's not what is happening in this video. There's no merge further up. That's not the scenario here. Secondly, even if it was the scenario, you're actually supposed to use ALL available lanes RIGHT UP TO THE POINT OF MERGE. At that point, cars are supposed to take it in turn to merge (i.e. each car lets one car in). If you don't believe me look it up on youtube, theres a million videos from driving instructors, DVLA etc explaining this is what you're supposed to. It's the people who queue far too early instead of using all lanes who are doing the wrong thing, making traffic slower, and causing tailbacks to go back much further than they need to be (thus causing jams further up the motorway that needn't be there).

Because there's a junction which they're probably taking, which is probably busy hence the queue in those lanes. Using the two right hand lanes in front of the dickhead in the Kia would mean they're in the wrong lane for their junction. Whereas the cars he was blocking weren't using the junction. That doesn't make sense though, or all the other cars in the other three lanes would have gotten in that lane to pass and for some reason nobody else was using that lane, I think the video was edited where it must have said further back that the right lane was closed for construction or some reason and to not use it and some people will take that opportunity to jump ahead of the queue. Otherwise, everybody would have been using the passing Lane but everybody else was following what were the apparent cut out instructions.

As a HGV driver, we need to constantly retake our CPC, Certificate of Professional Competence, every 5 years, the problem is that all HGV driver in the EU are competent drivers yet some of them have no regards to others safety. What I’m getting at is the 30+ gap from you or any related length of gap from 1 to another, let’s say 15yrs for a car license, if a theory retest was mandatory then this would solve nothing. We would as a HGV driver be competent, but still drive each day like their trying to get away with poor competence, I’m waffling, but hopefully you get it. The highway code says you should use the available lane space and perform a merge in turn at the point the number of lanes reduces. It was an honest mistake, the people speeding ahead were breaking the law first because they were driving in a closed lane. Lanes are closed usually due to an accident so they were putting people at risk. That's why everyone else was queued up for miles. The old guy hadn't seen that the lane had been reopened so he was doing what he thought was right and potentially stopping people from making a bad accident worse. Rather than explain to the guy calmly that the lane had been reopened they instead instigated an argument and eventually they realized why he was doing it, explained themselves and then he let them pass.

Honest mistake my arse, self appointed idiots probably roam around their home streets putting notes on cars not parked outside the owners houses and checking everyone grass is the right length. We get idiots like this near me a lot, there's a road near my just off a dual carriageway, it comes off the roundabout as a two lane road then about 300yds later goes down to a single lane. Idiots all queue up in the nearside lane and the traffic backs up onto the rounadabout and blocks it all up every evening. There are dirty great signs BOTH sides of the road that say, "USE BOTH LANES, MERGE IN TURN" but they all stay in the nearside frightened they'll get down the end and no one will let them in. Quite regularly you'll be cruising along the outside lane part and some twat will pull his car out and stop so you can't get past. When I'm in my lorry or a 4x4 I just drive up on the grass verge in the middle and go round them but you casn't do it in a normal car. Nice that you like violence so much. Did you not work out that when the Kia driver passed the overhead sign the lane may have been closed. When the driver who took the footage approached it had changed to 40mph? That is likely what happened. and the KIA driver was unaware the lane had reopened. When the red x shows the lane is closed because there could be emergency services, highways personnel or other people in the lane ahead.

Henry Page Regardless of what the great and might KIA driver may have seen, controlling the flow of traffic is illegal unless you are a traffic authority. It does not matter if you think the other guy might be breaking a law. Unless there is some sort of emergency, or you're trying to detain someone that is a threat to the safety of himself or others, what the KIA driver is doing is 100% illegal.

Technically it's driving without due care and attention. Intentionally blocking a clear lane . No inclement weather. Gantry shows all 3 lanes open. 40mph. By all means keep the speed down but above all keep moving ! That's the safest way to Clear a congested motorway. Hope he's been to court and got points,hopefully instructed to take a road safety awareness course. The word nob was invented for these guys !!

They're just typical control freaks and they don't understand British Road Law, it's morron's like this that cause no end of motorcycle and bicycle accidents, it happens on the A14 where the road is clear and suddenly someone with cut Infront and force you down below the national speed limit on purpose and slow you down for no good/safe reason, if your on a motorcycle and try to slip round they usually push motorcycles off the road with no care as to what will happen to the rider, as far are the numbnuts concerned there one less driver on the road to bother them. Sorry bad drive p*ss me off and Britain had alot of them at the moment.
