I guess I’ve been blessed … I’ve never really had a depressed state that lasted days on end. My way of handling “over whelming challenges” is to get teary eyed but then I get pissed off and do something about it!! One of my sisters has been on anxiety meds for 30 plus years .. she believes in “a magic pill” but for me I realize there is a way through and my “challenges” are a far cry from what others have to deal with .. a taking one’s life will only hurt those that are left behind.

I just came across this for the first time. I love the joy in your eyes and your smile as you reach out to the world with this song and message of hope. It is hard to imagine Dan Vasc EVER being depressed which make this video so much more impactful, because, hopefully it will encourage more people to admit they are struggling and seek help. Thank you for taking the time to honor in suicide prevention. My son in his mid 40s lost a dear friend just before last Christmas due to Mental health issues. I believe mental health should be as open as physical health, as having a heart issue, a broken arm or any other physical that we talk about so freely, so should we be talking about mental health so thank you hopefully this will expand the issue on mental health and allow people to let their loved ones know they’re hurting and they need help

Message that gives hope

The message about suicide prevention reminds me of the time when my life fell apart. The girl I had feelings for (and also had feelings for me, but we didn't call it an official relationship) said that she didn't have feelings for me anymore and distanced herself from me. I think this was the major blow to me. My family didn't want me to get a girlfriend so I could focus on my studies, but I kind of let the relationship to happen anyway since the girl inspired me to do better, but since she was leaving me, I felt despair. I wanted to win her back, but it was quite difficult. I also decided that I shouldn't let it reach my family. Who knows what they would think if I went against their wishes? I pent up the frustration and grief inside as I let the relationship crumble. The girl no longer wanted anything to do with me, and I thought that mending the relationship was impossible if it was only me who wanted to save it. I would say it was like dropping the bucket as I watched the bridge burn. That feeling of hopelessness was heavy on my young heart My parents were also having a major fight that ended up with them pretty much getting divorced. I am not sure if this affected me much, possibly due to how I was emotionally drained with trying to win the girl back or with coping with the breakup, but life was just hell. I also had to keep my grades up, and I know my friends could tell that something was wrong since I no longer had that spring in my step. However, I had to also prevent my grades from slipping, though I allowed myself some allowance since I had difficulty focusing and understanding the concepts in class. My grades had a dip, but I tried to minimize that dip I'm glad I made it out of that period. While the next relationship I entered also failed, at least I had some experience already. It was still painful, but I would say that it was the first relationship that hurt more, and in fact, it's the one that I remember more fondly, even though I also had some significant moments with the second girl Still, life is hard, and I can only hope to walk forward with courage even in the face of uncertainty of what still lies ahead of me. I already suspect that life will continue to get harder, but I pray that I can handle it I won't consider to have suffered depression but just a reaction to such circumstances in life. It was still horrible, however, and I'd rather avoid that kind of pain

Hey Dan, awesome cover and I like that you did it your own way. Gamma ray is probably the band that I like the most and this song have helped me through darker times. One thing I'd like to mention about what you said in the end. I don't agree that everything is in our hands. We're just tiny ants in a massive universe, we don't have all that power over our lives. A lot of things are happening without our control so we're not to blame for all the bad things that have happened in our life. However, I do agree that the chance of living a good life increase with taking action into the direction that one wants, no doubt, but it's an increase in probability, not a certainty. I've had to mention it because sometimes the dark thoughts come from pushing oneself too hard.
