Lovely video. I was born in Danville and still love it, flaws and all. I fantasize about moving back sometimes. Not in denial about the issues but always flabbergasted how eager to rag on it people are. It'a beautiful!

Oh I love that little safety place for kindergarteners… we did something like that in my school back in the mid 70’s in California… but it was all moveable props. I remember loving it too. But that permanent one is very cool. I’m looking to buy a house there.

The Carnegie building that houses the museum needs work, but like so many other buildings in Danville, no one is doing anything to preserve it. 🤷 They only care in words, not in action.

From Danville myself and really proud of it. I know like a lot of small midwest towns they have trouble with growth due to a heavy dependence of factory work but all of my best memories were at the spots you visited. I guess a home is what you make it. I'm originally from Teere Haute, an hour to the south. When my family moved up to Milwaukee, we would come back to visit my grandparents on the C.&E.I. They would stop in Danville for up to 30 minutes so people could get off to get something to eat. Unfortunately, by around 1968 the trains disappeared. Most of the small towns where the trains disappear end up getting run down and nobody seems to understand why. I still remember when they turned Gilbert Street into a pedestrian mall. That didn't last long. I appreciate the tour. Let's hope things look up.

As a someone from the new generation of Danville it’s sad growing up knowing Dick Van Dyke was born here and the city wants to tear down their house because it’s getting old it goes to show how much they DONT care about the history of it all. I personally would love to visit a refurbished version of the house to see what it was like but I guess they don’t have enough money for that. As far as crime goes yea on the East side it’s pretty bad to the point I wouldn’t trust walking around without protection or have protection in the house because of robberies. But most if not all murders here are “gang” related. ALSO… La Potosina is way better than El Torro
@dawninthemountains2 ай бұрын
Oh, no - You are Team La Pot?! No, El Toro every time. Hahahaha I agree about the Van Dyke home. My mom said there was talk about making it into a museum at one point, but that seems to have not really gone anywhere.
@departmentofredundancydept412113 күн бұрын
@@dawninthemountainsno one wants to actually put money into the Van Dyke home. Everyone wants it to magically be preserved, but no one did anything and it needs to be ripped down. Also, La Pot is so much better than El Toro. La Pot kitchens are cleaner than El Toro. La Pot is more genuine than El Toro.
