"Mother" is the lead single from Danzig's self-titled 1988 debut album, but it didn't make the charts in the US until it was released again in 1993. The video was banned from MTV because of that last scene with the chicken, all of which was faked. They didn't kill the chicken and the blood was movie prop blood (corn syrup and food coloring most likely). The song was written to push back against a censorship movement targeting rock and roll music that arose in the U.S. in the eighties under the leadership of the Parents Music Resource Center. The lyrics admonish parents to focus on imparting their values to their children rather than dictate art to artists, musical artists and otherwise. The Pilgrim's Progress, the book cited at the beginning of the video, is an English novel first published in 1678. It presents its tale of a spiritual journey from destruction to salvation as a dream sequence. The passage cited suggests a warning to parents involved in that censorship movement that their good intentions might lead in directions opposite those they wish for. I'm not very familiar with Danzig's other songs, so I can't recommend more, but I can point you to bands with a similar sound, like The Cult and The Stooges.
