DANZIG Press Conference on Robbs MetalWorks 1999

Here is a nice little gem I finally decided to pull out of the RMW archive. In my ear it was screaming to be let out, taking into consideration this video is 15 years old AND coupled with the fact that Glenn Danzig is one of my favorite artists of all time. As far as I can recall, San Antonio has only been host to one OFFICIAL, national metal festival & it occurred on November 5th & 6th, 1999 at the Live Oak Civic Center and was appropriately tagged, 'The November to Dismember'. How many of you all were there?
As a Jack Koshick event, it was well organized, represented & attended. Bands that played included, FLOSTSAM & JETSAM, PISSING RAZORS, S.O.D., RIOT, SKINLAB, ANAL BLAST, CROWBAR & MOONSPELL to name just a few. One of the exciting items on the agenda for press people were 'press conferences' that were scheduled, which most of the big name bands participated in. However, as a major headliner, DANZIG had their OWN press conference & as you might have guessed it came along with blunt truths, lots of laughs, ooo's & ahhh's,.....& that original Glenn Danzig flare. Topics that were discussed included:
• The upcoming Samhain box set (Steve Zing is part of the PC)
• Samhain one-off shows
• Members of his current line-up (for the 'I Luciferi-777' release)
• Verotika (his comic book company)
• Which national bands did NOT want to tour with him cause of the black metal element
• His relationship with Jerry Only & the Misfits
• & much more,....
So I hope all you enjoy this lil piece of history from right here in San Antonio.

You could already hear the hoarseness in his voice (which was very evident when he made his return in the summer of 1998). He definitely developed polyps on his vocal chords on the Blackacidevil tour in 1996/1997, because before that he had a CLEAR/CLEAN voice and his singing voice was a million times better.

Danzig is a hard worker but he must have been reamed by the industry over the years because according to the interwebs he's worth less than $10 million. That hardly seems possible for a guy who's been in the biz for 40 years. I mean, it doesn't appear that money was ever his prime motivator yet we got these no-talent American Idol fuckers raking in piles of cash for performing music they don't even create.

Oh it's here and there. Danzig is not the top draw he was back in 88-95. His audience has slowly dwindled and he has to do something to bring them to the shows. The Doyle thing works because it gives fans what they want: a semi-Misfits reunion. It goes to show that even Danzig will bend to the almighty dollar if necessary. Don't get me wrong, I love his music and his last 3 albums are great. But he's not selling like he used to and he'll do what it takes to survive.
