I *love* Sharon Jones for the purity of her art. I met her in Lawrence KS. She took the time to hang out with me and talk to me after a show, after giving it her all for 2+hours in stage with the Dap Kings, a few weeks out of the hospital. She was a true musical tour de force and a dynamo of soul. I will never forget that night and how much I knew then I would love Ms. Sharon Jones forever more.

Sadly it was announced this week at TIFF - Sharon's cancer has returned. She started chemo today (Sept 16th). The documentary titled Miss Sharon Jones! just premiered at TIFF. It follows Jones as she battles cancer and continues on her musical journey recording a new album in 2014 - Give The People What They Want. Time to say a prayer for her health.

I’m so full of emotions right now, she was honestly inspiring and caused an awakening in me to find and enjoy such a unique and soulful genre of music. As I prepared on Wednesday 11/16/16 for the beginning of a 100 Days of Discipline Fast to begin on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016 with the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY, I, in the silence of my home began to sing "100 Days". For reasons unknown to me at that time, I came home and looked up the songs lyrics online, studied them and re-wrote them on a card placing the card in my journal and bible. I continued to sing the song "100 Days" for days up until this morning. On yesterday, I sat and felt compelled to watch an extensive video of Ms. Jones singing her songs concluding with "100 Days" before I retired for bed at 2am this morning. Again, asking God to reveal to me what was the relationship between the song "100 Days" and my 100 Days of Discipline Fast. When I went to the Y to teach my Water Aerobics class this morning, I asked the life guard at the end of class to play "100 Days" from his phone since our CD player wasn't working and that's when I learned from my whole class that Queen Sharon Jones was now an Ancestor. She transitioned on Friday. 11/18/16. I'm in shock!!! I judge this is why I started my fast early. The Spirit world was tuning me in as it always does... In the Stillness, In the Silence of my Room. Thank You Sharon for Your Deep Gift and Presence in My Life and for All Who Love You. R.I.P. I encourage us to listen to the silence, it holds the answers and connects us wherever we are. One Love.
