Beautiful woman, person, and dancer.. Thank you for this documentary. It was an incredible honour; I was asked to coach Darcy and Roberto on the main Forsythe "In the Middle Somewhat Elevated" pas de deux for her farewell performance in 2007. She (they) were so open. It was a beautiful collaboration. I will never forget it.

Darcey Bussell is for me one of the greatest dancers of this century. She reinvented dance through her way of moving and the cleanliness of her work. He's also a great performer. Moreover, what does not spoil anything, it is of an exceptional beauty.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Great to see Darcey on stage and off stage, with her freshness, and discipline. I can see that she owes her high working level to her stubborness. And I owe Darcey so much gratitude for her Pilates exercises, in her book. For many years, I've worked through her book, choosing exercises that I recorded with my voice, and practiced them every morning. Every now and than I changed the exercises, in that 30 minute work-out for me. I respect her choice to be with her children more, and their growing up in life, while, I'm sure, she will never stop dancing. And teaching others who are as stubborn as she is. Bless your heart and soul, Darcey! 😉👩🖐🧙‍♀

After seeing this video, and others similar, find that the love and hunger has to be there within. Has to be the soul that needs awaking. As an adult ballet dancer who wants to find that equal, where passion meets forefilling that vision. Good place to start, accepting where we are and where we are going. Thank you for this video.

I've always loved this dancer. So down to earth. My great grand daughter, Heidi-Rose, has begun ballet lessons with a retired professional ballerina. Before lessons, when she was only 3, she'd look at her shadow on a sunny wall to make sure her arms were poised properly. Such sweet dedication.

This was beautiful to watch. She deserved all of her acclaim. She was a personality as well as an artist. It's sad that a dancer's performing life is limited, but it is what it is. I hope she is living a good life, and is happy. She gave her audiences a great deal of pleasure that she should always be proud of. I remember the Manon and Sylvia.

Darcey Bussell is the greatest British Ballerina since Fonteyn. They are completely different and their they are not at all alike. She has an amazing physicality. Her technique is outstanding; magical line and a chemistry, a musicality and chemistry she has is peerless. She inhabits her parts with a natural beautiful skills as an actor just. The greatest dancers are those that shine from within. It’s a real shame that no ballerina at the Royal presently compares to here. Her “Sylvia” is incomparable. Watch it on KZbin.

Fascinating to see how the great choreographer Kenneth MacMillan, fresh back from America, compares Darcey to American dancers, who have a strong attack, and an enormous jump. Darcey he says, dances like the American dancers he's seen. That's what Balanchine technique teaches. Don't hold back, what are you saving it for? typical Balanchine. This cross-fertilization is so interesting!

Excellent documentary … thanks for sharing. Am a boomer who studied ballet and grateful my mom was not a ballet mom but a surfing mom in the 50’s 60’s … because the ballet world back then was so insanely sick … just read Gelsey Kirkland’s “Dancing on My Grave” … at 37 I had an opportunity to finally study ballet with a very well known ballet master where I got it into my heart & bones … along with a deep appreciation for how freaking hard this art form is that the professionals make look so easy. I was fortunate to befriend Magali Messac a famous ballerina at the end of her career … being supportive of how hard it is to end one’s most intimate connection with Source is hell for most … but maybe not so much for Darcey due to her unique personality … and as she really broke so many old traditional molds … and was so fortunate to have had Macmillian!

Thank you for this documentary from 2005! The first time I heard of Darcey was when she was a guest star on an episode of the "Vicar of Dibley." Despite her fame, Darcey comes across as approachable and even relatable. She must've been pretty lonely though being so successful at such a young age. Probably the other dancers were envious of her. I hope I'm wrong. Thank you for the upload!

She is one of my favourite dancers but I didn't know she was so tall. She doesn't have the typical physique of a ballerina as she looks healthy and very athletic rather then anorexic. Pity her career was short but she went on to write children's books and live in Australia before returning to the UK I believe.

She danced for over 20 years and retired when she chose, not through injury. Her husband's career gave them the opportunity to move their family to Australia for a number of years. Now they're back in the UK, Darcey is still actively involved with dance & theatre and appears on TV. Seems a pretty decent life and career to me.

She was told by someone to just "give up on ballet". That she'd never make it. Well, F-them with something hard and sharp. The dear girl was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in the 1995 New Year Honours for services to ballet, Commander of the Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in the 2006 Birthday Honours, and Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2018 New Year Honours for services to ballet. The late Queen herself was a devout balletomane. And Her Majesty acknowledged when someone from the Motherland made an accomplishment on behalf of it. Let's be grateful she was--as she puts it, "stubborn".

No-one is suggesting there's anything wrong with how the looks but when she joined the Royal Ballet she certainly didn't have the classic Royal Ballet ballerina physique - she was about 4 - 6 inches taller than most RB ballerinas.

@@decodolly1535 I guess since I grew up in the US I don't understand British standards. I would have really loved to see Darcy Bussell as a member of American Ballet Theater. It seems a bit hypocritical for RB to hire her and then punish her for her height. If there's a height requirement I think they should just say so from the start.

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us into His image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. We cannot purify ourselves, but Christ lived that perfect sinless, pure life and then allotted it to our "account". That's where our righteousness comes from. Not from any good, works that you or I could do. It is not based on the amount of good works we do. God starts the changes, He carries it on, and He completes it in those who let Him. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him, again, through His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if YOU had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, forgiveness, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER If you have any questions let me know
