Benjamin Whitrow was amazing as Mr Bennet! His 'one liners' were delivered to perfection and his responses to Mrs Bennet's prattling, were so subtle in their sarcasm, they still bring a smile to my face. He deserves far more credit than he was ever given.

The problem is, though, that they would have been too much of a kind. She would not have counteracted his conceited, pompous, vainglorious ways- as Charlotte Lucas did. I can understand not liking a particular actor in a role (although I personally love Firth as Darcy) but he was hardly too old for the part. Darcy's exact age was never given in the book, but can be estimated at 33-34ish as his sister is 'more than 16 years' his junior and she is 16 by the time Elizabeth meets her in the book.
