Omgosh, I was 17 years old back in 1999 and I'd forgotten how beastly this Women's Soccer Team really was. Michelle Akers was an Absolute Monster and I love her personality on the field as well, because she 100% had the Killer Instinct and the "I'm going to show No Mercy." Mentality. I will always

Mia Hamm may not have been the fastest or the first picked, but she scored a lot of the goals, looked great on tv, and was pretty with a wholesomeness. Companies were right to pick her out of the pack.

The point where Lil saved the corner was amazing she most likely saved women's soccer in the world with that one save. China scores we lose and if we lose women's soccer probably tanks completely and probably never resurfaces anywhere in the world ever again. So one Hope Solo should be ashamed of herself with some of the antics she had made or done or caused against Lil. Not for Lil Hope probably never gets to play soccer for a living, so Hope shouldn't be hating Lil, Hope should be bowing down and kissing Lil's feet and thanking her for that what Lil has done for the game of women's soccer.

Great documentary on US Women's "FOOTBALL" that was the first "FOOTBALL" match I ever saw live on the web, as a Englishman I can say without doubt that US Women are still the best in "WORLD FOOTBALL". Through the 1970s&1980s England were on top...but no world cup then to prove it...we (England) have a lot of catching up to do,,,using your methods! To End..the World name for The World Game is FOOTBALL.

I don't remember this game mostly because I was 4 years old at the time but the impact of these players has set all of them as my role models even 13 years later and I'm sure it has done the same for many others. And if I had one chance to go back in time I would go to the USA vs China game. :) And GO USA BEAT JAPAN FOR THE GOLD!!

These ladies made such an impact on the game. They were not nearly as highly paid as they are now. Not nearly as well supported. So they couldn't alienate any of their fans or potential fans. And they put in the hard work so that the current version could whine, complain, and PURPOSEFULLY alienate half the population of the United States because it feels good to let out your anger and hatred! What a difference!

Wow, both the USA goalie and China's goalie were off the line on those PKs. Nowadays any of those that were blocked would have had to be retaken. That said, it's still an epic set of PKs.

The debate for me the was about the whether or not the law existed, but you raise a valid point. The law is still not enforced as well as it should be, but what my instructors pointed out is that once the game is on the worldwide stage, it becomes entertainment. That's why some players get away with wearing jewellery or the fact that handball is called very harshly, because it then creates scoring opportunities. A penalty re-take isn't very dramatic, usually someone just feels cheated.

In the women's game, that's how it was back then. They literally mention in this documentary that FIFA refused to even put their name on the first women's world cup (they literally sold the naming rights to M&M's and it was the "M&M's Women's World Cup") because it was considered *that* "unimportant!" The women's world cup was barely televised and had a tiny audience worldwide! So yes, the Olympics in 1996 was massive! For the very first time, billions of people would be watching the top female soccer players in the world (yes, it was and still is *very* different from the men's game, where far more soccer fans watch the World Cup than the Olympics because the Olympics is mostly a U-23 event)! Again, all of this was before the FIFA Women's World Cup 1999, when the world cup became as watched in the US as the same event in the Olympics. So yes, the entire world really was "upside down" back then compared to the men's game - from the way female athletes were treated, to their pay, to the events, etc.

Yes, it was a rule that was put into writing in 1997, but it was never enforced until the last few years. Since FIFA had simplified many rules that year and refs still weren't following the rules FIFA made the refs follow the rule book much closer and the rule you two are arguing is one of those. Brazil men and women were notorious for doing exactly what Scurry did on that save. Just like the 6 second rule. It's in the book, but it's rarely enforced because FIFA doesn't make the refs enforce it.

Yes, stay on the line until the ball is KICKED. She is WELL off her line BEFORE the ball is kicked. Once the ball is kicked the keeper can do whatever they want, even today. I just reviewed this information again three weeks ago at an Advanced Laws of the Game clinic for referees. You are misunderstanding the law.

This coming from the country that didn't know that they could be penalized with a 6 second rule that can give the opponent an indirect free kick after admitting being told to quit time wasting. Yeah I'll definitely take your word on it -_-. Do you have a link to where I can read these rules from 1997-1999 since you're upset over it 14 years later?

Yeah, where did you find that Foggy? 1997 change in FIFA's Laws of the Game: Law XIV - The Penalty Kick The new text states "The goalkeeper remains on his own goal line, facing the kicker, between the goalposts until the ball has been kicked". The phrase "without moving his feet" has been deleted. Nice try.
