There were several masters of animation during Hollywood’s golden era. Of the top two geniuses, one created elaborate fairy tales and ornate feature-length fantasias - the other guy was Tex Avery. He just wanted to make you laugh. Having already been integrally involved in the development of Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny for Warner Bros., Avery moved to MGM in 1941 to create a set of comedy masterpieces that defined a new slapstick style for animation, inspiring cartoonists, comedians and filmmakers for decades to come. Avery’s unit at Metro Goldwyn Mayer was all about breaking the fourth wall, shattering expectations and making audiences fall down with laughter. The hilarious part I find is that some of Spike/Butch's failures are actually more spectacular than Droopy's successes! Like the fact that his disconnected halves can walk on their own without any problem or how Spike managed to burrow down the earth with his propeller pointing the opposite direction!

@@kikinotero6798 Spike is his original name but later on MGM change his name to Butch but because Butch is the name of the black cat so MGM decided to cut him from the show to not make confusing for the kids. And that we never see him until Tom and Jerry the magic ring but that the last show we saw him poor boy

I love how Tex would modify Spike's teeth with each scene to enhance the effects and convey the emotion of the it...it gave Spike a type of human element because it's the way we as humans would probably react in a similar situation.. Just paiY attention to those subtle details and the cartoon is that much funnier

Throughout these 3 minutes all scenes (except for the last Sharp Shooter one) showing Spike’s teeth is all done by Grant Simmons who likes to draw teeth that way so I would say its the animators’ individual styles contributing to the overall cartoon instead of the direction.

This scene with the dumbbells weighing a thousand pounds covered and the scene with the helicopter headwear was really funny as both sceams backfired on poor Spike as he ended up going through the ground both times and another funny scene was the last one with him driving that hot rod right into the brick wall and upon smashing into it the car turns into a jalopy.
