Just finished watching the second part for your mini-series. I gotta say, I watched the movie "Lords of Chaos" and I'm honestly bamboozled by the complete character murder they did to Varg. In the movie they make Oystein look like a decent guy with big dreams that in the end just wanted to get on with his life while Varg as a narcissist douche. Thanks for this documentary, definitely clears up the water on who was really at fault here and who was the real victim.

Yes, but the difference is he was let out after his sentence, while the likes of Breivik will likely have his sentence extended for the rest of his life. But 21 years are only supposed to be given in clear cut premeditated murder cases that are particularly sadistic or calculated, usually involving rape or robbery. That is how it is defined in the law, and i just don't see this incident fitting that description at all.

Yeah, "Dunkelheit" is an alternative tiltle of "Burzum", "Jesus' Tod" is actually "Jesu død" etc. But most of the copies of the album released by Misanthropy Records are the so called "German version" with booklet in German, therefore the titles are translated. The actual songs are the same in all releases.

To my ears, they sounded death/thrash metal as well as Celtic Frost (who are fucking amazing); who are from Switzerland. And i couldnt forget Mercyful Fate from Denmark. Black Metal was an entirely different breed of musical tonality, timbre, and of course throat ripping shrieks; Mayhem and Burzum invented black metal. It's a shame when KZbin took Vargs channel down as he explained most of the things relating to the early Norwegian Black Metal scene and the death of Euronymous himself. Seems to me a lot of people commenting on here have no understanding of said scene, Black Metal and it's history in general and have commented simply because they've seen or read the crock that is Lords of Chaos. Even if blues and jazz never existed, rock and metal music would have evolved eventually, music was getting louder and more complex, people were using new gadgets like the electric guitar. Rock and Metal actually have more in common with Folk than Blues and Jazz. Rock and Metal musicians primarily use the same technical aspects of Folk music when writing a song. If you listen to a lot of folk music you would agree with me. It wouldn't take long for Folk music to evolve into more heavier sounds.

I don't agree with his politics and he seems like a self-righteous ass, but I dig his music a lot and find him to be an interesting and entertaining person in the same way that serial killers or famous mobsters are interesting and entertaining. I also dig Mayhem and honestly I don't give a crap if he killed Euronymous. Thats just the way it is, it was a very long time ago, theres nothing you can do about it now, get over it. I know a few people who still hold a grudge over that.

I noticed what they did to Varg, they did the same thing to Charles Manson. Locked them both up. Difference is the state Charles was in he got 70 years (life) while Varg got 21 years is that life in where he is? I know it's 25 in Canada. but aside from that. They both had too much media attention and no one liked it and saw they were bad influences and possible threats so they took any chance they had to lock them away for as long as possible. Difference is Charles Manson there was no evidence.

The fact that Blacks invented Blues and Jazz is insignificant, because most metal musicians don't even listen to black musicians. To say that Blues and Jazz eventually created Rock and Metal, That's a poor argument to begin with, and is more along the lines of a myth. It has no merit in today's Metal music. What if I never heard a Blues, Jazz, Rock, Metal song in my life, and I coincidentally wrote a song using guitar, bass, drums with classical training? It would be considered rock/metal.

He said it was initially self-defense because Øystein attacked first (or so he told, he could have been lying). But at the point where Øystein was crawling on the floor, defenseless, it was no longer self-defense, Varg admitted this himself. But he finished the job nevertheless, because he couldn't let him live. He couldn't give Øystein a second chance to murder him. And I kind of understand him at that point, you know what a maniac Øystein was. If Varg had let him live after the first enocounter in the apartment, Øystein would had most definitely planned to murder him (again(?))), even if he wasn't planning it the first place.

Surprisingly? I believe Varg in many of these accounts... Reason being, I interviewed several of the luminaries of Mayhem years ago (Necrobutcher, Hellhammer, Blasphemer) and they pretty much backed up most of what Varg said to begin with... Always wondered what the originators of 2nd wave black metal would think about Broken Trinity. American blackened doom band with the Viking ethic.
