🕯️📜 The Ian Pears looks great. Love a chunky book for the dark nights.

Very nice collection. I think that the Shirley Jackson one and the one about the trial in the 1600s sound very compelling. Another read that is not quite Dark Academia but has a professor, an English teacher, students, and a body is The Limit by Finnish author Riika Pulkkinen. It is more of a serious contemporary but very compelling.

I'm reading Babel in Edinburgh this week, a Dark Academia book in the capital city of Dark Academia. So this video is right on theme! Thank you for the suggestions, will definitely give them a look.

Although I'd heard of most of these books, I didn't know enough about them to realize they fit the DA genre. Thanks for expanding past the titles that are most often suggested. I have several of these on my home bookshelves already!

I have a copy too, found it thrifting and someone told me it was a great read. But I forgot all about it until watching this video. Now I want to drag it out to read sometimes this winter.

🕯📜 Bellweather Revivals and Special Topics in Calamity Physics was what caught my attention so you could read those ones sooner, maybe? Now that I have finished my KZbin subs I am going to go watch an episode of A Discovery of Witches, which is not Dark Academia but whiich I'm really loving because it is filmed at Oxford and it gave me lovely visuals for the setting back when I was still reading Babel.

I’m so glad that yourself and Codie are talking about The Lake of Dead Languages ( despite the dodgy publication 🤣 ) - I read it years ago and it still sits firmly on my favourites shelf - I hope you enjoy it a lot too 😊 also Hanging Rock is just up the road from me and even going there in the daylight it is a little spooky!

Great list! Added a few to my TBR 🙂 I read "The Society for Soulless Girls" when it was published this summer. Loved it! 👏 It's basically a feminist and sapphic re-telling of Strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde!

Ooooh I really hope you enjoy An Instance of the Fingerpost, it's a wild ride. I also laughed out loud when you found the wrong book inside The Lake of Dead Languages, I've seen printing errors like that happen before VERY infrequently, but it's weird for them to mess up on that kind of scale hahaha. Moved right on up there on my mental Ashleigh Moments That Give Me Joy list. I hope you really enjoy them all! You always give such wonderful recommendations.

I’d like to hear about The things We Do To Our Friends, The Bellwether Revivals, Black Chalk and The Lake Of Dead Languages. I read Incubus by Carol Goodman and think that would also fit the bill for dark academia if you want another book to add.

THIS WRONG BOOK BINDING HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE!!! I’m reading Furiously Happy, a memoir by Jenny Lawson, and BAM next page we’ve got strange old-timey English and George R.R. Martin at the top of the page. I thought it was a one off thing but nope, I flipped through and it kept jumping between Furiously Happy and pages of a freaking Game of Thrones book!!! Freaking Orion 🥲 I had bought the book 2-3 years before off Amazon while living in the UK and I was either in Egypt or Saudi, can’t remember, at the time of reading it earlier this year. So obv didn’t try returning or exchanging it but 🥲🤧 Your reaction? Pretty much mine. And I sent it to my friend and made her check her own copy to make sure I wasn’t going mad or this wasn’t a prank part of the book 😂
