Shoot with a -1 to -2 exposure lut and pull the footage down in post. Blaine Westropp has some great videos on this subject
@Bruno_fyi
@Bruno_fyi Ай бұрын
@@emilthilsing I recently started using the monitor+ app with EL- zones, to try to understand stop values better. But from what I understood, the shadows that you want to be completely black in post should still be lit to around 2 to 3 stops under and then I should raise everything with more light?

How Tall are you? I see you like to set the camera so you angle down on the subject most of the time in the BTS. I like my DPs short LOL
@ANDBERY
@ANDBERY Ай бұрын
72 inches tall. From above, the characters look more vulnerable and the women more attractive. Anyway I try to find a camera height point on scene context. :)

Why shoot at 18IRE? That's risky. You could have shot double that or even higher keeping detail in the image and just brought it down in post. Explanation on that one would be good.
@ANDBERY
@ANDBERY Ай бұрын
I meant that 18% light reflectivity in the IRE area I indicated on the waveform. Not 18 IRE
@stelzalol
@stelzalol Ай бұрын
@@ANDBERY Ok but even still that waveform in that shot is extremely crushed. You said you shot the whole short around that area in the waveform? Seems like you'd be loosing a lot of unrecoverable detail? Perhaps i'm missing something here.
@ANDBERY
@ANDBERY Ай бұрын
@@stelzalol I shot only night scenes with this exposure, but that doesn’t mean I underexposed the dark areas in the frame. They were brought down in post-production. The point is that the key light metrics remain in the zone I specified. I don’t understand what you’re talking about when you say I’m missing a lot. 18% gray is a very flexible value for post-production.

This looks incredible, thank you for taking the time to share! Romans 3:23, 6:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
