The last truck, I drove was a Cabover Peterbilt with a 400 Cummings in it with a 13 speed and I haul tankers all over the country then. God bless keep up the good work and keep up the good videos. It brings back a lot of memories of being on the road, when I first started we never had CDL licenses. They used to column chauffeur licenses but the government change them over to CDL‘s. If I remember right I think that was in the early 80s I believe I could be wrong but I believe it was, then it was such a long time ago. My mind sometimes plays tricks on me , I’ll be 80 years old on 15 November and believe me if I could still drive a truck I would be out there on the road. I loved it.

I was just wondering with the problem you are having with the steering on wet roads. Have you ever had the frame checked to see if that truck was ever in an accident and the frame is bent or has a weak spot in it to cause it to flex a little to cause that problem in your steering . just wondering…. I enjoy your videos very much. I know how it is out there in a highway I drove truck for 25 years myself starting back in the 60s and 70s and a little bit of the 80s. I started off driving a B 61 Mack with a coffin sleeper on it with a five and four transmission quadruplex without power steering and no air condition. The only air condition I had was two fans by the windshield in the front and two vents one on each end of the sides of the sleeper for cross air. but in regards to the traffic and the idiots on the road, we had them back then too but not as bad as you have them nowadays and the truckstops were a lot cleaner with old fashion home cooking the parking, lots with cleaner, and most of all the drivers never wore flip-flops ha ha ha. And we had a Lotta respect for each other. If there was a truck broke down on the side of the road we used to stop and check on the driver to see if he needed help. No CB radios when I first started, and of course, no cell phones , we would pick the driver up and take them to the nearest payphone so we could call into his company for help and there was times I went out of my way to bring the driver back to his truck. Also, in the winter time a driver would sit there in his truck and let the other driver keep warm until help arrived. We used to help each other out not like it is nowadays. The drivers on the road could give a shit about you or another driver. All they care about is themselves. Add another thing you never seen a driver taking a leak or shitting in the parking lot. Always wait inside the truckstop. A driver had respect for a truckstop property. Be safe out there and God bless. Fuzzy said that.

Go and buy a new power steering pump and a new filter. Make sure wheels are straight. Take off return line. Start engine pump out old oil. Take hoses off steering box screw out the two nipples replace o rings screw them back in screw those hoses back on. Now remove hoses from pump screw out nipples remove pump new o rings on nipples and fit to new pump replace pump to engine. Put return line back on oil tank and new filter. Fill tank. Start engine give it a good hard rev turn off. Top up oil start and give another hard rev till tank stays full let engine idle for 15 minutes. Jack up steers turn lock to lock at least 20 times. This will eliminate if any air has been getting into the system and eliminate if pressure relief valve in pump has been faulty. For the king pins get your self a Milwaukee Temperature gun. Half way through a trip check steer wheel bearings temperature and then king pins if they are hotter you have bad pins. Wheel alignment will not fix wandering and will not fix having the wrong feeling in the steering

@bradchandler696729 күн бұрын
Yes that sucks it's still happening. So last thing I knew you were bringing it in for frontend alignment I believe ? And at that time I asked you the "glider kit" question. I would think the drive tires would show signs of uneven or premature wear, but it was just a thought I had. Do you remember what I'm referring to ?
@OTRBandit29 күн бұрын
@@bradchandler6967 that’s the weirdest part about all of this that’s happening with my truck. There isn’t any kind of uneven wear on tires. Not on steer tires and not on drive tires either.
@bradchandler696728 күн бұрын
Hmmm---do you notice any difference in the wandering under acceleration or decelleration ? I think you would've mentioned that before, but had to ask. And you say it's more noticeable in the rain, right ? And it's something that's started somewhat recently and not the whole time you've had that truck, right ? Sorry to keep annoying you with questions, but I've had many trucks over the years with all different types of suspensions, and when I can't figure something out it drives me shithouse !! So if you don't mind answering those questions I'd appreciate it. Oh, and that was a typical "glider" right ? Cab, front suspension, and just long frame rails out back that were cut to length and your suspension/rearends were installed, right ?
@OTRBandit23 күн бұрын
@@bradchandler6967 everything on this truck came from the factory, except for the engine and transmission. I’ve started noticing a lot of my problems whenever I got the reefer trailer, but I don’t think it’s the trailer because I’ve pulled other trailers since then, and it was the same thing with those trailers. It’s acting the same way when accelerating and coasting. And yeah, it’s very bad in the rain and scary. Even though I have a brand new tires.

I can remember running to all three logbooks just so we could run. If you got pulled over you don’t have to remember which logbook to give the cop so he can check it, but I always kept a brand new logbook in case I ever did get stopped and gave him the wrong one. I would always tell him sorry I made a mistake and then I would give them the brand new one and tell him I just started driving again and I would fill it out right in front of them. They would never get to stop you for speeding because sometimes on somebody hills, you could walk faster going up the hill then you can drive because the trucks would never go fast. I can remember going downhill and put the transmission in neutral just to get enough speed they’ll go up the next hill. And running your arm through the steering wheel and grabbing a whole vault shift and love it and double clutching and moving the levers both at the same and State and Truck with your elbow or your arm going down the road as your shift from one gears to another. And I always kept a receipt from a truckstop with no date on it. What time of one that was in the general area that way if I got stopped, I could give the cop the receipt and tell him I just left there and then do my logbook did that way many of times save my ass ha ha ha, ha ha ha, ha ha. The tricks of the trade. We never had GPS is always had road maps or road atlas to go anywhere and when you stopped in the truckstop, you would always ask if there was a driver that went to the same place that you’re going to or one close by and ask him how to get there and they always told you the right way everyone helped each other out not like it is today dog eat dog. And there were times when I driver would say follow me. I’m going right past the place you’re going to, and he would blink his lights on the trailer when you had to turn or when you were at the place everyone helped each other out. And there was nothing like good old fashion, home cook truckstop, food, and the waitresses were always polite and courteous. Not like it is nowadays all that fast food not good for you. Nothing like a good old fashion home cook truckstop food was delicious especially around the holidays , you could get a good Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas dinner there was times they would give it to you for free around the holidays because you could not be home with your families. And they always had telephone booths five or 10 of them when you could call home and talk to your wife’s or families and they were free calls when you bought fuel at the truckstop or you eat dinner or supper at the truckstop there was no charge for the phone calls especially around the holidays. I remember that very well back then you had respect you were treated with respect and you treated the next driver with respect, and he treated you with respect in return , not like it is nowadays. You look at somebody cross side they’re ready to shoot ya or stab ya I can’t remember being on the road for one or two months at a time before I got home and then when you got home, there was always things to do around the house before you left to go back on the road again. i’m sorry if I’m being a pain in the ass by saying all these things but I’m telling you the truth that’s how it was when I was on the road in the beginning. And you have a very beautiful truck. I like that, but there must be a reason why it drives the way it does so maybe you want to have the chassis look at to see if it was ever in an accident or if there’s any weak spots where it’s Flexin and causing you to sway a little bit might be by the chassis upfront. Just a suggestion , that’s all. Good luck. God bless. Fuzzy said that.

I can’t remember Holland watermelon’s out of southern part of Florida they would load you right out in the feels in between each watermelon. They would put hay from the floor. Halfway up the trailer with water melons. Ran across alligator alley. That’s when it was only 2 Lanes Rd. one in each direction run along that road at night, and all of a sudden you think you hit a pothole or a speed bump and what your hit was an alligator laying across the road getting the heat from the road at night. When they’re loading you out in the field. Sometimes you would hear a gunshot, they had guys walking around with pistols, and when they pick a watermelon, they sometimes will come across a rattlesnake laying in the watermelon patch they would shoot it and then at lunchtime, the people would scan it and cook it open or open fire for lunch. The pickets did that that picked the watermelon‘s. Not for me, but those were the days when drivers help each other out and had respect for each other, not like it is today out there doggy dog every man for himself. So I know what you’re going through a lot and the reefer units. We’re only a pony motor on the front of the reefer trailer that would keep it cold that run on gasoline, and every so many hours you would have to fill the gas tank up to keep it running nothing fancy like they have nowadays. Some of the trailers were single axle trailers, and all those were tandems no slide axles all stationary and the dolly wheels when you crank them down they had no pads on the bottom. They used to have little small steel wheels on the end of the leg. And that there was times when you go to hook up you’d have to chase the trailer because it would roll on their wheels and all the times you would have to put a block of wood or stone behind the trailer wheels to keep it from rolling backwards so you could hook up and in the winter time where you had was a little heater in the front to keep you warm and you would run with a canvas over the front of the radiator to keep the radiator hot so the water stays warm. I can remember many of times wearing jackets gloves just to keep warm when you’re driving and scraping the inside of the window of the truck. Keep the frost off so you can drive. Boy has time changed hasn’t it like I say I enjoy your videos a lot. I can remember in the late 70s being in Florida when they had the riots there and having a national guard guy ride shotgun with you with a rifle just to get out of town and we will run in convoys then once we got out of the city limits. The guy would get out of the truck and it was safe to run . Never had turnpikes always ran two lane roads in the beginning. No super highways no toll roads no scale houses and you pass off cop on the side of the road. They would wave to you either saying hello or just slow down a little bit never pulls you over , they always gave us respect just like we gave them respect. It’s all together different nowadays. If you look cross cited at a cop, he’ll pull you over for no reason whatsoever I can remember times when a policeman was broke down on the side of the road. I would stop and help them give them a ride. Some of them never had two way radios, and our cars drop them off at a truckstop or somewhere where they could call Lynn by phone then were the good old days. You’ll be safe out there and be careful and watch out for all those idiots in them for wheelers and also in the trucks that always think they’re better than you are , God bless and be safe and keep up the good videos. Fuzzy said that.
