I have a suspicion that Credence is also a Gaunt, a descendant of Isolt's squib daughter Martha. While the pureblood side has died out, there are probably other members of the Gaunt family still out there.

I think it would've been a great plot twist - perhaps Credence could've been a cousin of Merope and Morfin - I did come up with a name for Mavolo's father (Elagabalus)

I know Aberforth Dumbledore is his father, but the mother hasn't been revealed and there has to be a reason they released the history of Ilvermorney right before starting the Fantastic Beasts films.

Even if Credence is a Gaunt, wouldn't him being an Obscurus have meant that he'd be dead by the 1980's anyway? So there'd be no Gaunts left by the time Harry Potter was born or the story took place, unless he wasn't the only one. However, given how strongly pro-pureblood there are, if there was a chance that Merope wasn't the only blood traitor, the chances that there could be MORE than two would be quite slim. Besides, even if there were, it's possible that Voldemort could have offed them, just like he did with the Riddle family and with framing his uncle Morfin Gaunt for the Riddles's murders (so that he'd die in Azkaban.) If there's one thing Voldemort hated, it was any link to Tom M Riddle. Indeed, the only living link I can think of that Voldemort let get by, which was a mystery, was Horace Slughorn, and, as we all know, his survival ultimately led to Voldemort's demise.

The Gaunt family always reminds me of the Hapsburg family of Spain! They were Royals of Spain who were so inbred that not only were there lots of serious mental health issues, they also had what is known as The Hapsburg Jaw....very distinctively long underbite! I wonder if that's where JK got her inspiration from!

I feel like Jk Rowling took inspiration as far as world building and histories from JRR Toilken and George RR Martin. Like Dumbledore to me is very close to Gandalf the Gray/White so to me he must be a descendant of him same thing as the targaryens with their need for the most part for blood purity characters like the gaunts the malfoys and the love Goods the mouth boys and the love Goods have that traditional Valerian Targaryen traits many of them go crazy or seem to be thought of as crazy like Luna and her father but they also have a superiority complex like the malfoys even draco's name means dragon so he must descend from the Targaryen family line Luna and Draco have that Targaryen almost whitish blonde hair. While the guns can speak partial time which is kind of similar to the dragon Valerian speech High Valyrian it just became more Whispers just dragons became no more they adapted . And like to targaryens because of their blood Purity complex they had a history of incest

Is the Gaunt Family truly extinct tho? I mean: Isolt Sayre did have children and Martha Steward II did marry. And even though her younger twin chose not to marry not have any children, it could have been that Isolt’s family still has descendants, some maybe Muggles/No-Maj and some wizards & witches. Tho we’ll never know as there will be no more information about them. So even though the British side of Gaunt family might be extinct, the Irish-American side might still be alive. 🤷‍♂

Like I said, I suspect Credence's mother was a descendant of Martha's. They released the history of Ilvermorney right before the films began, the boat he was on was headed to America, yeah I suspect he's a Gaunt along with being a Dumbledore.

Every time you do a video, your research reveals something else that JK had to plan out first in order to make sure everything fit into the cannon. This was not perfect as we can all see from inconsistent things that pop up, however she is still a remarkable intelligent lady to have spent so many years planning and writing all together. I honestly think it's all relative. I mean Peter Pettigrew was a Gryffindor and the most famous wizard, Merlin was a Slytherin. Everything we know about Salazar Slytherin and the reason for the split between friends is based on years of rumor, not actual written history. Scabior said it's rare to see a muggleborn in Slytherin. Rare, not impossible. In fact, his statement proves muggleborns did get sorted into Slytherin, so was Salazar a pureblood supremacist, or was it muggles who were actively burning witches and wizards he had a problem with? Man, I would kill for a series based on the Founders.

It' not that simple im afraid. It mostly comes down to upbringing and personal morals. When the sorting ceremony takes place the hat judges you on where you will be best suited for the next seven years of your academic life. Which is almost insane, because between the age of 11-17 views on things can, and often will change.

When the hat was made though Slytherin could have mandated purebloods only in his house. Yet, he didn't. Halfbloods and muggleborns did get sorted into Slytherin. So the question of whether or not Slytherin was against just muggles or all muggleborns still exists.

All this lore makes me want a Harry Potter book trilogy that takes place in Hogwarts during the medieval ages maybe not when the founders were running things because I like that some thigs stays mysterius but still in the medivel ages. It would definitly be interesting to explore how things were back then.

I’ve always been interested with the choice of the name Gaunt. John of Gaunt was the founder of the House of Lancaster. He had two wives. The children from his first marriage were “legitimate”, but he had children with his second wife before they were married. These children were made legitimate through an act of parliament. Had they not been legitimatised, Henry VII’s tenuous claim to the throne would have been impossible.

I'm a bit curious, how does the Sacred 28 work? Would Weasley have been removed from the list when Ron and Hermoine had their children, producing half-blood Weasleys? I'm assuming that it might only be determined by male members, as Molly's having a Muggle second-cousin (an accountant I think) didn't affect it, but Ron marrying Muggle Born Hermoine might have.
