It's only better in that it makes it more difficult to pretend they just happened to stumble on the same title for a completely different movie, and aren't actually raping a really good series of books.

Indeed. Notice how it doesn't mention who the "Sequence of Books" is by. I think this shows what "Harry Potter and the Unstoppable Franchise" would be like, if Jo Rowling hadn't overseen production. And what happened to the recurring motif of "A circle quartered by a cross" ? All we get is some vaguely glowing watch thing. Better go down my local secondhand bookshop and buy the original...

A "group of immortal WARRIORS"?! Since when are the Old Ones "warriors"! They are powerful, yes, but far more subtle. Watching Will toss around his brothers and the police was painful.

definitely a better trailer, but I don't understand why this film is called The Dark Is Rising when everything that is unique and interesting in the book - mainly the Arthurian legends - have been removed.

Can you tell that the people responsible for this film grew up in loveless WASP families and expensive, empty, dead suburbs. Can you tell that they spent their childhood in malls and video game arcades? Of course you can.

Take a quintessential British novel, tart it up to make it more "American accessible," rip out its soul, and you get this pablum -- a movie manufactured to appeal to the shallow and immature.

Terrible language about a terrible movie, but with a very valid point. Poor Susan Cooper, she deserved far better than this. If anyone reading this has an IQ over 80 and at least a modest education, READ THE BOOK!

the books will forever be better than the movies.

One of the trailers posted by GSonlyone, w/Will on the bus and at the mall, is the one shown before HP; it more clearly reveals how much they tried to Americanize this very British story and worked to divorce it from the book source. Read articles posted to the net and you will see that they clearly state that this was for marketabilty reasons and not artistic ones.

Well, read the original story for yourself (It's always in the Graphic Novel section), but I'm actually glad they changed Mori from ill-mannered old guy to hot, 40-something cockney badass. (Yes, I have a thing for Richard Roxburgh, too.)

I agree 100%... They removed everything that made the book what it was and just kept the name. They should have left it alone and let someone else buy the rights...someone who actually cared about telling the story preferably.

yknow, they didnt have to change it. imagine how amazing the movie would of been, if it was exactly like the book? probably could of won an oscar. perhaps make them more money. if not being an idiot isnt motivation enough, then maybe they should of thought of that....

Definitely a better trailer. I watched the movie. If you look at it just as it is, instead of an adaptation of the books, you might enjoy it. The books are still 100% better, though.

He's acting like a teen because they made him THIRTEEN instead of ELEVEN. Ugh. Yes, they butchered the story.

I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it, but indeed: the original logo had the Sign as described in the books, but it's mutated into a different look in the trailer and the new logo doesn't show it at all. Afraid of alienating the religious right? Bah.

what the heck... the international trailer is deceiving, they totally skipped over the fact that the storyline was modernised and just showed the cool magicky parts. But the US trailer already has me so disappointed. *mopes to go read the book now*

I don't want to be flamed, but I really think that if it was closely adapted, it wouldn't have been a good film. Cripes, if you think about it, if they went with the original LXG, it wouldn't have been good, either.
@pbarnes2617 жыл бұрын
I guess there's not a lot of reason for people who would like a good adaptation to complain; I mean, what more do we dull-witted movie goers like better than pretty girls, explosions, and violence? Who cares how good the novel was? Please just fill our shallow minds with more cliched, derivative plots and characters....
@grendelee17 жыл бұрын
what? thats why im complaining, i HAVE read the original story. the whole thing is changed. its a different story. why not just make it a princess that needs rescueing in space from a dark emperor?

Utter dreck. Rape of an amazing book. Derivative trailer for a derivative movie that is a re-write, not an adaption, of a moving and subtle novel. Uh, "Pseudo-Will," could you look for the signs that will direct you to the actual book plot?
@berriesncream17 жыл бұрын
They messed up the main character. And what a terrible script.
