Perhaps. Though if it's true as a lot of NPC dialogue implies that Drangleic was built on top of Lordran, then Majula was likely built on top of Firelink Shrine and whoever lived in that mansion before found the Lordvessel and kept it. Who knows?

From a frenchman to the world: Le désir de vivre. This is not a popular book. It's not famous either. It was written in 1907 and is mostly considered an antiquity made out of paper rather than a story made of words. It's extremelly difficult, even on the internet, to find someone who read the book. One who did states that the story is predictable, simple, and mundane, but that it is easy to read. One summary says "Pathétique histoire d’une jeune provinciale venue imprudemment à Paris et dont la vie, toute de lutte et de misère, est pourtant égayée d’une lueur d’amour", which means: "The pathetic story of a young country-girl who came to Paris uncarefully and whose life, full of strife and misery, is made happier by a glimmer of love". What does strike about this book is the irony of the title, as the author died in 1915 during the first world war. As I understand it, the developpers who put the book in the game probably didn't know what it was about either, but knew about the title and the author. I think it might be used as a statement on the very nature of the curse and on your own backstory. In dark souls I, the gods were ready to do anything to live just a little bit longer. To lenghten an obsolete age. And here, so does vendrick. So do you; killing anything in your way on a hearsay that souls would mend your ailling mind. And so do we in real life; far outliving the age our nervous system was designed to bear, and finishing our lives in "undead asylums", empty shells with eyes like dead glass... Hollowed out slowly until the sound of our own children calling our name becomes just a noise... And in this slow frustrating death, you can do nothing, but shout in anger at those who can't help you either. Perhaps if you're lucky you have the superior gift... A simple pendant with no effect. Even so, pleasant memories are crucial to survival on arduous journeys.

And here is the 11th thing you didn't know: Enemies stop respawning when you kill them ten times BUT if you kill the three pigs in Majula ten times, two slightly bigger pigs spawn instead who can be killed 10 times. Then a single big (and strong) pig spawns who can only be killed once and he will drop three cracked red eye orbs.

The child herald is actually in the game, she gives you the feather in the Dragon Aerie. This is proven because in the Aerie she is shorter, has a higher-pitched voice, as well as the dialogue that she tells the player.

No, no she's not. She is a dependapottamus who can still somehow win the footrace to these distant, dangerous places. Oh, and she waits until Dragon Aerie to give you the feather of infinite teleportation; I'm aware the purpose gameplay wise is for balance so that Homeward Bones are not useless (and presenting the survival element that they are a finite item), but this does still mean the little horse but hole was holding out on us.

The Emerald Harold does have 2 voices, when you visit the dragon shrine. You know, the part where she gives you the aged feather, in that part she is visibly shorter then you, in majula shes just slightly shorter but during that part and also when you make it to the dranleigc castle she is also shorter then usual. Lastly when you see her by king vendrik at those catacombs (forgot the name to that place) Plus her voice sounds slightly diferent. Just thought I should point that out.

VaatiVidya The theory with the map of drangleic and the map of boletaria (Demon souls) is actually pretty awesome (even when the DEVS say that DeS and DaS are not in the same world). Because in demon souls, there is a destroyed archstone in the nexus, and this destroyed archstone would have lead the player to the kingdom of the three giants. And... well, betwen boletaria and drangleic is a big sea on the map you comparised at 4:40 and, what if the giants from the lands of demons souls attacked drangleic, because Vendrick came across the sea and destroyed/took their archstone? And that is 1. why the archstone to the kingdom of giants in demons souls is destroyed and 2. why the giants came across the sea, and from where they came! (Sorry for my bad english. I hope i could explain to you guys what i mean)

Sorry for giving you more questions :D I also have a theory of, why the flame in Dark Souls faded. You know, when Heide is the place, where Gwynevere travelled to with her husband, the god of flame, it is just logic that the flame in Lordran is fading, when the god of flames is missing to care about the flames. That is also the reason why the bonfires say: "far fire (raw translation. in german: Fernes Feuer") I think that the flame went with the god of flames to Drangleic, and left the place of Lordran. Because, you can see, the flame in Heides flametower is burning pretty strong, even though heide was swallowed by the sea. so, what I think is: The flame started fading, because the god of fire left Lordran. And Gwyn, the lord of sunlight, tried to takeover the duty of guarding the flame, but he couldnt keep it kindled, because he was not powerful enough to. I love making these theories about DS and DS2 :D

However I have seen many theories that Nashandra is actually a piece of Manus (the pygmy) who still lives on. So does that mean she obtains the others to rebuild hers? That explains why you find the lord vessel destroyed in Mejula.

Aaron Dias Well, just in theory, could one "rebuild" the soul of manus? It was only made from humanity, so if one gathers enough humanity, can he "recreate" a duplica or even the original soul of pygmy? (manus) would be an interesting guess, which would also give a reason, why Nashandra slays humans, lets them turn hollow and loves the dark. (Also the crushed lord vessel in Majula)

just some ramble Vaati after NG+ we find that the 4 old ones actually owns the soul of Gwyn, Izalith, Nito and Seath, everyone knows that but the shards of the Lord Vessel actually remind me, in the end of DkS1, the Lord Vessel actually contains part of Gwyn's soul, and also the souls of Izalith, Nito and Seath... also, when you talk to Chancellor Wellager, he tells you that King Vendrick defeated the 4 ancient ones before the kingdom rises, does this means that he is a chosen undead in DkS1 ? or does this mean that the 4 souls have been reborned more than 1 time

"Le désir de vivre" (1907) is about a young provincial woman who rashly goes to Paris to change her existence. There, she leads a pathetic life, struggling against misery but she falls in love with a man from a wealthy family. This story isn't a fairy tale and doesn't end in happiness. The author died during WWI, so his books and himself aren't common nor well-known nowadays. Title aside, I can't really understand how From Software knew about this book ^^

With that small map connection to the cutscene in Demon's Souls, it could mean (if you were right about Drangleic being just across the sea from Demon's Souls areas) that the Giants we fight came from the land of the Giants in Demon's Souls. The Giants' Archstone was destroyed as to not let Dark prevail through into the Nexus, meaning the Giants became corrupted. And we can see from the Abyss that FROMSOFT kinda takes corruption as a dark purple color. So happens that the Giants in Dark Souls 2 are dark purple, maybe the Giants that crossed the sea are not Gwyndolin and her subjects, but are the Giants from Demon's Souls. Maybe Vendrick went to Lordran and became the Dark Lord and did not trust the Primordial Serpents so he stole something and went back to Drangleic. Maybe it was Gwyndolin and her subjects. Any of these things could possibly be. But for eternity we wonder.

Completely unrelated to majula but i found something worth mentioning: The description of the Blossom Kite Shield "A rare shield depicting a blossoming flower, that soothes the weary heart of its bearer. What makes flowers beautiful, and why are we comforted when we gaze upon them? Sadly, the flower depicted on this shield went extinct long ago." Obviously, The flower shown on this shield is a Rose. May i draw your attention to the line "went extinct long ago"? This, my dear Dark Souls community, means Dark Souls (2 atleast) most likely plays in the future, which COULD mean, that Demon Souls and Dark Souls are in the same Universe, but Demon Souls taking place in the past and Dark Souls in the future. They don't have any connections with each other but take place in the same canon universe.

The Lordvessel being there is more important than you think. When Nashandra came to Drangleic, she told Vendrick of a "prize" across the seas where the giants lived. After Vendrick's conquest, he used the Lordvessel to help create his kingdom. Nashandra obviously wanted it for the lord souls. She's Manus (the furtive pygmy) in human form. But, by that time, the giants had crossed the seas and waged war on Drangleic, trying to reclaim their stolen relic. Why do you think people of Lordran were giant? Sensing something amiss, Vendrick fled and hid the Lordvessel away to an inconspicuous place, the basement of the mansion in Majula. There, it was destroyed and the lord souls were released into 4 other beings: the Old Iron King (Gwyn), the Lost Sinner (Bed of Chaos bug), the Rotten (Nito), and the Duke's Dear Freja (Seath). History repeated itself once more. Why do you think you can transport from bonfire to bonfire right from the start? This also clears up the Ornstein and Gwynevere theories, showing that they abandoned Lordran and fled to Drangleic across the sea, since Ornstein was devoted to keep the princess safe. And of course Boletaria is in the same universe. Why else is Patches in Dark Souls?

I don't know much about the soul's universe(s), but in Demon souls, the clerics always referred to God in the singular, and in the Dark Souls games, they always referred to gods in the plural. I always assumed that they were different universes with one being created by a monotheistic God, (possibly the Judaeo-Christian God) and one where people worship a pantheon of gods and goddesses. But then, why is patches still in both worlds?

Dark Souls is only "officially" a different universe from Demons' Souls because of copyright issues: From doesn't have the rights to Demons' Souls, Sony does. It's pretty obvious that it's the same world when you look at the lore, like the broken Archstone leading to the land of the giants and Lordran being a land ruled by giants. And there's Patches, of course.

Here's my interpretation of what I've been able to piece together about the lore by myself: Drangleic is built upon the ruins of countless kingdoms that rose and fell (perhaps Vinheim?) over the millennia, back to the time of the First Flame, when a noble saint cast himself into the bonfire so that the Flame might live on. Then, either King Vendrick or Nashandra stole something of great worth from the Giants, a race of ancient beings across the sea. Incensed, the Giants invaded Drangleic, bringing the kingdom to its knees before they were finally defeated. Devastated by the war with the giants, Vendrick and his kingdom were little more than a shell of their former selves.They began a long process of decay, and the Undead curse reemerged among humans once more. Desperate to save Drangleic, Vendrick attempted to understand the nature of souls so that he might stop the curse, and he conducted experiments with his brother, Aldia, but was unsuccessful, and became Hollow himself. Only Nashandra remained, and it was she that began the curse, by robbing humanity of the Dark Soul. The Venito keeper of the crypt stated that humans were once one with the Dark, but had lost their relationship with it, further adding evidence to this theory. Deprived of their very humanity, Vendrick and Nashandra's subjects became hollow, wandering aimlessly about the land until they forget everything. Yet one Undead is destined to replace Vendrick and slay Nashandra, revitalizing the Kingdom once more and further extending the age of Fire.

A few things don't add up but ok. Spoiler warning if you haven't played! First of all Nashandra is the reincarnation of Manus (says it in her soul or weapons made from her soul). Also I wouldn't say she was undead, she seemed more corrupt than undead (evidence by her soul being dark purple, along with the watcher and the defender). All the experiments were done by Aldia being manipulated by the soul of Seath. Hinted by Man scorpion Tark(us). Drangleic is built over other kingdoms, one being Lordran (hinted with evidence). Vendrick stole from the giants. Nice job though, pretty in-depth :)

I thought the map was just an oddly coloured rock, and I never really looked at the lord vessel in DS1 (enough to memorize its pattern i mean). And I never actually talked to the merchant with 0 souls. Oh, but one thing Vaati forgot to mention/show was that Gilligan gives you the Melu Scimitar if you buy the expensive ladder.

People might have mentioned this before, but here's a fun thing - If you die in a few places in the forest of fallen giants, you can actually see your bloodstain from the Majula bonfire - if you die in the place the crow drops Pursuer the first time, your bloodstain appears about halfway down the right side of the cliff face, and if you die on the battlements against Pursuer in his boss room, it floats WAY off to the left of the castle.

It seems pretty clear that Dranglaeic is built over the ruins of Lordran (and several other kingdoms, to boot). Majula serves the same purpose as Firelink Shrine and, amusingly, appears to be located in the same place physically, too. Looks like the Lordvessel got buried with the Kiln and sat there until someone dug that basement.

I like to believe that the two souls universes (Demon and Dark) are actually the same (even if the devs said otherwise), but that nobody significant from both stories ever heard of the lands of the other universe. What I am trying to say is this: Demon souls and Dark Souls are the same universe, but none of the important characters have visited\heard of the lands of the other souls game.

I liked that concept as well. I was hoping that in this game there was going to be some ties to Demon's Souls but everything seems to point towards the previous Souls game, Dark Souls. That and strange references to FromSoftwares' earlier titles, aside from the Souls series. Love reading item descriptions, because they propagate knowledge that is either purposefully misconstrued or has sometime of meta-philosophical importance within your endeavors that is happening or has happened behind the scenes. ... That tangent was crazy, and I'm sorry... But yea, Dark Souls II doesn't seem to have any correlation with Demon's Souls, sadly.

xxEvilChris Well it's not much, but I've actually found some small things. At the beginning of the game you go into a portal. In a land where time is distorted and alot of other instances of physics defying that would make Sir Issac Newton roll in his grave, I think its very possible that it leads to another universe. Demon's Soul's Universe. Also you know what was non-existant in DeS? Giants. What died out in DkS2? Giants.

Just because you have more than you expected, do not bite off more than you can chew. It's easy to fall into the thought that you need to justify and use all the money for the projects, but it can be hard to manage and easy to over-estimate if you are not cautious. For example, Double Fine running out of money for their project part way through, and releasing it as early access to cover the rest despite getting far more than they ever thought they'd need. I am hopeful and excited for your project, but do not become a victim to your own ambition.

I feel as if from soft just added in a bunch of "lore" or background information in the description of some items for the sake of it cause they now know that we the fans like desecting it but the problem is there is a bit to much like they just mentiond a bunch of names ... Like "This ring belonged to blah blah of old kingdom of bloo blee but he and the kingdom died lul" shit like that, and those named invaders that aren't mentiond any where else. The thing with dks1 is that there was a structur in the lore and they never expected for us to put the pieces together, now they are just throwing all these random names and places at us... imo of course...

To be fair that all traces back to the fact Miyazaki barely understood english as a kid. He loved western fantasy, especially reading it. However since his grasp on English was so poor, he only got bits and pieces of the story. Over time that's how he learned to tell stories, by only giving bits and pieces and hinting at their connection in the background.

What I can tell you is that it is a famous book written during/after the first world war, and its been known in those series of "war oriented" books describing the life of men at war and the lives of those (women, child) stayed at home. I could read it and tell you if there are links with the lore

Just managed to damage the Executioner chariot boss enough, without pulling down the grate, that something new happens. At approx 25%hp it can't make the leap anymore and hangs onto the edge's lip. If you kill the pigs in majula over and over they evolve. They start as 3 little piggies you kill for 30 souls each. Then 2 adolescent boars you can kill repeatedly for 140 souls each. Then 1 daddy boar that you can kill once for 800 souls. Then the piggies stop spawning in Majula.

Ive been playing this game since it first released and I just learned the Tesldora set increases souls gained! I did some research at the hat gives 2.5% the gloves give 10%, armor gives 5% and boots give 5%. For those interested in getting even more souls that stacks with the silver covetous serpent ring +1 and there is another set called the nahr alma which the armor gives 10% more souls so you can replace the tesldora armor with that for even more souls.
