Also I think that the trailer would have benefited more without the vocal, The song's instrumental parts are great and DkS always did speak with its enchanting instruments rather than singing. Dark Souls 1 had All Saints Day and Bartholomew by the Silent Comedy, Dark Souls 2 had Aching Bones by Nadine Shaw. These songs are meant to be more representative of the trailer and a feel of what its trying to show off. The marketing for dark souls 3 has been heavily focused on a "embrace darkness" theme, and this song captures that, a dark melancholic song about seeing the dark inside yourself. You guys are acting like this is official soundtrack to the game rather than just a trailer.

Personally I think this would be better (and also more well received) if the part that starts about a minute in was cut somehow. I think the start of it up until then is pretty cool for the game (not for being played in the game but as a trailer song), but that part stands out to me as taking the song down the rankings a bit. When it comes back at the very end tho it works a bit better

When I realized that this song was word by word the same as the Cyndi Lauper original, it came to me how just tone can change the meaning. The original felt like a song of a person who encouraging someone to be themselves, as in "It doesn't matter if you are not normal, I love you for who you truly are". This version, on the other hand, feels like the whispers of a temptress who telling you to let yourself lose. As in "Stop holding it in and just give into the madness".

I feel this song is giving the idea on how the Dark or Abyss is to the undead who are afflicted by the curse. As if they were in the stage of going hollow and they hear the abyss as a whisper which would explain why the song sounds so beautiful. This game is about the end of a cycle where in theory the dark soul wants to become one again maybe the cycle has lasted too long. And in Dark Souls III we are seeing a result of no one linking the first flame and the dark sign calling in for the cycle to end. This song fits perfectly with that idea IMO

This song has a deep lore significance. Why? Because it wants you to embrace your Darkness to become.....The Dark Lord. To destory the flame and let the darkness consume by embracing your animalistic instinct. Unfortunately, this is the true ending of Dark Souls 3. Even the final edition of the game is called "The Fire Fades edition." Sadly, the last ashen one who took up the mantle of making the decision of the world decided to let everything go and became the Dark Lord of Humanity. Even as a Lore scholar.....this...truly is one of the darkest universes ever created by humanity. But if you think Dark Souls is dark.....(Cue sinister laugh!!!!)........Elden Ring and Bloodborne bring torment and destruction to everything you ever loved.

This song always made me remember of Hawkeye Gough from the original Dark Souls game. Everybody seens to think that this song is about letting yourself lose to the darkness but i like to think quite the opposite. I believe darkness is in all of us, it is a part of who we are and as more we progress in life more we lose of our innocence and more the dark prevail. In the end, time wear out all of us, even the heroes. But when Gough helps us defeat that last threat in Anor Londo we see a special moment, that rare moment where in a glimpse of nostalgia we show the essence and fighting ability of once was.
