Games need some level of frustration in them to provide contrast, and even moments that don't go your way can be something to look back upon fondly as an interesting experience. I'm so glad you decided to try it out again. Best tips I got for Souls games is to learn how many attacks you can get off before needing to move/dodge/parry for each enemy. 1>2>Dodge repeat, it can kinda become a dance when you get it down. Second tip, knowing how many attacks/dodges you can get out of your stamina bar helps a lot. Gotta say Fauna, you bossed it this stream and I'm impressed but not actually surprised. you honestly did amazingly for someone who basically never played a souls game. as i said, its much more enjoyable with someone guiding you. or a couple thousand people. having a coach on VC is good because they can give immediate feedback and you don have to glance. also clicking the gerald button also happened to me so often that i ragequit, back when i tried, lol. was playing MonHun at the time and it got a similar button layout to witcher. (also cant use emotes, because of youtubes silly new layout ;~; )

Go for it, man. The series is deeply rewarding, but it's also very coy: it doesn't want to let you in on its treasures until you've spent some time with it. Try the pyromancer class in DS1. Good luck!

I'd recommend Elden Ring actually. DS1 is easier in many ways, but ER is less punishing, so you have more room to learn from your mistakes. Both games are great if you take your time to learn mechanics and how things work here. First hours can be hurtfull but after that its a smooth sail.

After the initial challenge cuz of it being new I promise you it is not too bad. It’s hard but it’s very fair and if you use your head you will rapidly improve.

My advice is that getting good at DS is about learning patience, incremental progress, and understanding that death isn't failure, just a learning opportunity. It's expected and all part of the process. The saplings weren't kidding when Fauna shrugged off some lost souls and they responded with "she's getting it" and "that's the spirit". If you ever *really* need souls, you can do some grinding. Good luck! As Jake the Dog would say, sucking at something is the first step towards being sorta good at something.

One recommendation for the new soulsian: at this point in the game, you’ll want to ignore the chat backseating as much as you can and just play the game in whatever way feels right. You’re the one playing, not them, so please take longer breaks from glancing if you can, otherwise it can feel like another “chat plays Pokémon” situation (some people can be rude to new souls players too, so it’ll help you mentally too). It’ll also help to learn things organically and try things out on your own. BUT if the way that feels right to you is to let the chat backseat your experience, then that’s okay too. There are many, many ways to play, and that’s the beauty of it. Regardless of any of that, have fun!

Thank you for playing, you've done quite well for your first proper run! I feel like in DS trilogy and Elden Ring it is very beneficial to use a "correct" tool/tactic when dealing with specific enemies. For example, the skeletons at the graveyard are relatively resistant against slashing weapons such as your katana, but a single hit with a mace quickly puts them on the ground; some knights are tanky and hit hard, but their attacks are slow and easy to parry; and so on. And a two-handed R2 from a +5 chaos zweihander is good against most enemies, though you need 16 strength to wield it. You might be interested in experimenting with various weapons and their movesets, see what you like. Also, most of the storytelling/worldbuilding in DS is done through item descriptions (such as the one you read for large titanite shards), environmental clues and even music, rather than through NPC dialogue. Some descriptions are mundane, but the ones for keys, unique weapons, unique armor sets, sorceries/miracles/pyromancies and some consumables are very interesting, and some even give hints about where to go. Personally, I think these storytelling elements add a lot fun to the experience during a blind playthrough, so I would suggest you to look into them, but ultimately it is up to you how you want to play. Hoping to see you play DS again!

Congrats on downing the Gargoyles and Pikachu, that +5 Uchi did insane damage! I was skeptical of the Souls runback, but it's pretty cool to see the game start to click and as long as you're having fun, it's a good time! I hope the amount of backseating was alright for you, you were asking for lots of tips, but sometimes it's hard to know the line. Once you finish Witcher 3 you can play Dark Souls again as a little treat!
