Simple answer to that question is the use of synth music to create creepy, unsettling sounds predates 80s synthpop and the two eventually combined in horror movies. John Carpenter's soundtrack to Halloween was recorded back in 1978 and became the template for all the low budget horror films of the next decade because it was a really cheap way to score your movie and a very effective way to create an ominous atmosphere. Since these movies were made for teens It was only natural that elements of synthpop would combine with the darker arrangements and sound palettes of the film scores.

I play this as I enter the atmosphere of hostile planets. The stereo on my intergalactic cat-cycle beams the music straight to the brains of my enemies so they are even more impressed when I show up. Usually, they're slave-trading space pirates; real scum. I don't want to glorify the ensuing carnage but it does feel good to see the grateful, teary-eyed people as they witness their captors slaughtered and feel the chains fall from their necks and wrists. It always takes me back to that moment in time, all those thousands of years ago, when my own chains fell. Unfortunately, I was the only one still alive by the time my liberator arrived. I suppose that's why he took me with him and taught the ways of the Intergalactic Space Ninja. He never spoke a word in the two thousand years we were together. I woke one morning on an asteroid and he was gone.... sorry for the rambling, I never was as cool as Musashi-san (that's what I called him, don't know what his real name was/is; some of the stories I hear cause me to believe he's still out there).

to me Gosts heavy stuff is nothing like Perturbators older albums. tho i think i can recommend dan terminus to you. theres a pertubator and dan terminus mix on my channel but it focuses on fast pacing. still you might get a good impression. dunno if your'e into synthwave a lot but id like to know what you think of daniel deluxe too. not trying to act smart, perturbator is just one guy from france. like many electronic music pioneers eg Jean Michel Jarre
