The band originates from Oslo in Norway and played a raging 10 song noise punk set during their 30 min live session / concert at the recording studio. Interestingly, and wonderful, the crowd that had managed to squeeze in before the room was full consisted of both quite older and much younger generations - equally enjoying the session.
Currently signed to Sheep Chase Records, here's some background on the band:
Punk trio Dark Times achieved an immediate high standing in the Oslo underground in 2010 when they started performing their precise blend of aggressive punk, noise rock and fuzz-loaded pop. The band was hailed by NME and Brooklyn Vegan for their live performances, and became the first Norwegian band ever to be profiled in the American punk-rock bible Maximum Rocknroll. In 2014 they released their first full-length, Give (Sheep Chase Records), which was nominated for Spellemannprisen (Norwegian Grammy). Dark Times was selected for the official program at the SXSW festival in 2017 and are releasing their second album in April 2018.
Check out their latest music video for single «Blazing», directed by Jenny Berger Myhre: • Dark Times - 'Blazing'...
«The Norwegian trio Dark Times play a form of punk rock that’s tough to categorize. It’s catchy and anthemic, with big and clean melodies, but it isn’t really pop-punk. It’s got deep, murky production, but it’s not experimental or even lo-fi. It’s got a pummeling intensity, but it isn’t hardcore. The band’s music is its own thing, and it’s got a buzzing sense of power to it.»
Stereogum
«The thing that really hits me in the gut with this record, is that these are really big anthemic punk songs with big whirlwind riffs. (...) They really amp up the tunefulness in the abrasive sound that’s going underneath it all.»
All Songs Considered, NPR
«Dirty punk radness from Oslo»
Brody Dalle (The Distillers)
«A solid slab of noisey Norwegian punk. Likened to Black Flag, early Sonic Youth and PJ Harvey, Dark Times are awesome, but it seems not easy to categorise.»
