Geniale man!

@Mazeppa6: Rogier indicates that the music score was not to be sentimental but still needed some degree of tragedy. The theme is heroic, with copper horns and all. The meaning of the music has to do with side effects, hunting, marching soldiers, clinging on to total elusiveness; that's heroism and sadness. It reveals what's in the action, yet is not said. The part he likes most is the score that accompanies the killing of Robbie (you hear the music from the album).

Toppie! Prachtige filmbeelden. Heb er een klein stukje van gezien in het programma "vrije geluiden" dat in 2005 een uitzending aan hem wijdde.

Even though I can understand only 5% of what he's saying, I love the video, it's nice to see what Rogier was like, such a nice lively man! (Dutch sounds sexy! :)

Dutch men don't speak like that anymore, it's old school Dutch :)
@genatzvalee4 жыл бұрын
@@MsRobTube I wonder what the difference is. Pronunciation patterns, vocabulary, intonation? Honestly I'd listen to Dutch spoken all day long! I love G sound, and also that there are 3 ways to pronounce R. By the way, I read about Rogier that he was actually quite demanding, difficult and standoffish, especially at work. Not as laidback as I imagined! And he also hated rock music!
@MsRobTube4 жыл бұрын
@@genatzvalee Especially intonation and vocabulary. Rogier speaks with a slight 'posh' accent that very few people use anymore, it was spoken mainly in 'Holland' (the western provinces) and his vocabulary is very precise. The interviewer (a famous Dutch actor) speaks with a slight 'Amsterdams' accent, which is very popular nowadays, just like the influence from English words and pronunciation in Dutch today. I don't know about his temper(ament), he seemed like a nice guy, but he could very well have been quite demanding in his work... I think he was one of the greatest Dutch composers of all time (there haven't been that many :), the second theme he plays in the video ('Waalsdorpervlakte') is very beautiful, don't you think?
@genatzvalee4 жыл бұрын
@@MsRobTube Thank you for breaking it down for me, it's so nice of you! I also think Rogier had a posh accent because that he was born into a highly cultured family, grew up listening to Mozart and stuff. I totally agree, the 2nd theme he plays here is amazing, intense and emotive. It's nice how he emphasizes different elements of his music and explains them (I could understand the word 'klok', thank goodness!) And that early video cassette player! Yep, I agree he's definitely one of the greatest, it's a shame his solo albums weren't successful. Everyone was obsessed with Pink Floyd at the time, and later got into disco and punk. While I do enjoy all these genres, I also think orchestral music like Rogier's deserved to be in the spotlight too. His "Strollin' around", "Heartbeat", "Two of a Kind" and "Flattened 10th" are among my all time favorites! If not for KZbin I don't know where I'd discover it all...
@MsRobTube4 жыл бұрын
@@genatzvalee Yeah I think so too, his father must have been an example for him, he grew up with (all kinds of) music and musicians :) You're right, he mentions 'klok' and also 'fluiten' (flutes), it's the part he's playing with his right hand, it's a shame this theme isn't on youtube, it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music I know, even when it's just played on the piano (or maybe becáuse it's only the piano...), it was meant for some of the most dramatic moments in the film. I must say I like his filmmusic the most. He also worked with someone like the flutist Thijs van Leer of Focus (famous Dutch group in the seventies), but sóme of this other work I find a little too commercial. He also composed the music for the film 'Turks Fruit', do you know it? 'Dat mistige rooie beest... ' (difficult title to translate :) is also one of my favourites (with harmonica), very melancholic, beautiful!
