Somehow, I think if/when an expedition is allowed, they'll find someone has already salvaged that gold. There are individuals and nations who don't care about historical sites when tons of gold are just "lying around".

I read the book "Battleground Atlantic" twice with fascination - which pertains to your video here! Can't really understand why not much was ever said in WWII history about such an important historical event as this! I also still hold on to hope that someone will make a movie of this WWII event too!

I think the most logical explanation as to why these submarines were never covered is propaganda. Directly post-war (well until 1949), the US was the one and only atomic power. To admit the Germans and Japan came “close” would be to admit that their weapon would not remain unique among warmongers. Now, I put “close” because of this: the Germans tried creating a reactor to test if uranium could achieve criticality, and all they managed to accomplish was to set fire to the reactor. The brass was not remotely impressed by the laboratory “campfire” and cut almost all their funding. The fact that they made heavy water was accidental, and was never applied in the correct way. The Japanese sadly never even made it to criticality attempts - they were hobbled by a military industrial complex that believed it needed no super weapons and could simply overwhelm the world with their sheer manpower and brutality. So the Japanese literally starved their nuclear program to death (for some reason the Japanese were using sugar in their process, I believe as a substitute for graphite, but it kept getting stolen by employees until almost none was left). So American leadership (even before they found out the poor extent to which their enemies had reached) decided it was best to not mention their (lack of) progress at all. And they also thought the Russians would need decades to replicate what took only 4 years (thanks to Klaus Fuchs).

In point of fact, Japan had a program to build a nuclear bomb. The program had been transferred to the Chosin reservoir in what is now North Korea, to make use of its hydroelectric capabilities as well as to escape U.S. bombing of Japan. When Little Boy exploded over Hiroshima, the head of the Japanese nuclear program knew exactly what it was! Whether Japan could have produced an actual bomb or a "dirty bomb" given another six months is uncertain. Fortunately, Japan surrendered before such a program could come to fruition.

What is the unit of measurement for the 2.2 tons of gold bars? Was it METRIC TONS, long tons, short tons, avp tons, troy ounces? It does make a difference in calculating the value of the gold bar cargo. 1 troy ounce weighs 31.1034 grams, 1 metric ton weighs 1000 kilograms, 1 long ton weighs 1016.05 kilo, 1 short ton weighs 907.185 kg,
@benjaminlynch9958

Probably 2,000 pounds per ton. 2.2 tons = 2,000 Kg which seems like the nice round metric units that Japan and Germany would be using at that time.

I saw Mel on Johnny Carson one night and he said the Film Studio wanted him to change name of character cos she was so litigous but he said "no, let her sue us we will get publicity give her a bit of money to settle" and that is what happened , she sued got paid $50,000 the Film got many times that worth of publicity .
