Started the game today and i'm having a blast. Love the new bite-size runs with meta progression formula. DD1 is excellent but the lengthy campaign felt too punishing at times.
@scarletsletter44664 ай бұрын
Thanks for the review. I have tons of hours in DD1 & love it. I bounced off DD2 on PC but bought on Switch to see if I’d stick to it more on a portable system. The first game is almost the perfect Switch game since the runs can be quite short & you could play while waiting at the DMV or doctors office or whatever. DD2 just hasn’t grabbed me. I think the inability to prepare successful runs due to RNG is highly demotivating. Nobody wants to waste 2hr on a run that they couldn’t have won. Games like Slay the Spire avoid the feel of wasted time bc you start the run & it’s immediately apparent if you’re not getting synergistic card rewards. You can tell that your deck isn’t clicking, & the run ends rather quickly, then you start a new one. But in DD2 you just have to keep playing without knowing what you’d need for that run & it feels like… idk, imagine if in STS you got a new deck at the boss or something? 😂

I was really hoping DD2 would fix the overkill RNG that could absolutely demolish you, despite your best preparations, and make it feel like you're at the whims of things other than your skill, and it doesn't sound like they addressed that. Thanks for the review!
@DeathlyDrained4 ай бұрын

RNG is more controlled on DD2. There only a handful of moments that rng destroys you compared to the first game. Once you have more upgrades/skills unlocked and team comp knowledge the luck factor goes down more. If you have a lot of bad luck too frequently it means its been played incorrectly and you are not learning from the mistake. It still a hard game like the first but you don't need to memorize a whole wiki to play it
@TheSilvercue4 ай бұрын
RNG is far worse in DD2. Especially relationship rolls when you leave an inn.
@themobiusquadron4 ай бұрын
@@TheSilvercue its Negative 90/65/30/5% and Positive 5% /30/65/90 in that order only affect rng by INN / or negative or Positive quirks, if you cant manage stress and get meltdown constantly getting more bad quirks then its on the player not knowing the game. A good player can lower the chance or just keep relationship at neutral by the end of the run. And people having relationship problems can simply run the Orphan Pup which is literally the first pet to unlock. Which gives you 20% positive rolls (10 and 10) on players on Neutral or above. Like all good roguelikes you can have a negative and thats part of how to deal with a bad hand which makes the game more fun, specially succeeding with a negative hand

I have been playing this on PC for some time now. The main issue is that you can play for hours to get to a boss and then have no chance because they need really specific team compositions, so you have been a dead team walking for hours. Also RNG utterly ruins this game, it is so much more invasive than in DD1. RNG, especially relationship rolls, can literally destroy your run in a second and it is just RNG. It looks pretty but is so inferior to DD1, which is probably why the community is so dead, so early, compared to DD1
