I think the whole idea is that healing wasn't needed to begin with - even with massive dodge buffs, the vestal lacks the dodge compared to MAA which compromises the party's ability to actually damage the boss. Many of the bosses in crimson court have very high damage abilities that can't be countered with a turn of healing - you'd have to commit your healer to several turns and pray that they don't target the healer as well. It's much better to stack dodge to maximum with one maintaining the buff while everyone else can dish out damage. Overall, it's very high risk so you'd need to play your cards right to use this composition effectively.

The scariest part about this boss fight is that i took 2 MaA and spammed bolster with 12 shard dust's. After round 15 with dodge on all characters exceeding 150 she started to land hits on me again. I didnt bring trinkets bc i didnt think this strat would work and was just experimenting but was very surprised when it did but then didnt. Still killed her in the end though

Better yet, bring 12 shard dust on the mission. Have the 3 MaA use bolster, then start having them down shard dust to refresh the uses on bolster, and use it again. Usually the debuffs and stress hit of using shard dust would cause a person to go insane from using too much, but bolster reduces incoming stress damage. I beat the countess with 3 MaA and a vestal just in case. From 15 bolsters everyone had +150 dodge and -300% incoming stress. The ripostes during that fight were brutal.

To me this fight is just another proof that dodge is NOT reliable in this game at all. Even with constant dodge around 100, he still received enough damage to almost lose his grave robber and drop one of MAs to half hp. If RNG went badly for him, he could have lost one or two characters on a relatively easy boss fight.

The fact that he killed a boss with 4 actions most of those actions would have been about 10 damage and life steal, with 0 heals, dodging is way more reliable then a vestal. he didn't even completely optimize his dodge buffs. its the same as if all your characters had 90% damage reduction. yea you could get unlucky but at least the odds are massively on your side.

I always prefer mitigating damage rather than having to react with heals as it basically takes away your healers options for their turn. In some games you can get a healer who can bring another to 100%hp every time they're dropped to 1, but in Darkest Dungeon its much lower. With dodge, you can take some assurance that a hero wont die if the whole enemy team decides to focus them down with what could be a string of crits, where even with unreasonably high protection, could still kill a hero. I'm not saying dodge is the way to go or that its better, it varies from dungeon to dungeon. Having both high speed and dmg can also be a form of damage mitigation as you can secure one or more kills per turn and deny actions for the enemy side, making most fights feel much easier. It really comes down to what you have available on your roster, what enemies you're up against, and your personal preference.

The game has a cap for dodging and missing. The Boss always had a 10% chance to hit any party member, so 90% was the actually dodge of the party.

this was the first boss that wiped my team and i gotta say this is the very well designed boss for the people who meets this boss for the first time(and not watching any boss tips) , it is possible to beat this boss, but it won't be an easy victory i lost to this boss with 16 Hp left xD... my party member : priest, jester, robbery guy, robbery guy (sorry, i played this game in korean translation) / difficulty : darkest so basically what i want to say is, even if the party isn't design to kill this boss, this boss is beatable with some great decision making and a drop of bless from RNGsus at the next run, i beaten this boss flawlessly with the party of : priest, dog tamer, man-at-arms, spear lady anyways, thanks countess for the achivement, i might never have earned this without you -w-...
