Darkest Hour: Europe '44-'45 Battle of the Bulge Event - 4K

Yesterday was a Darkest Hour Battle of the Bulge event with over 70 players. I was last able to experience that 5 years ago! Almost 15 years old now and still one of the best hardcore shooter out there! Four maps were played like Foy and Stoumont, it was very intense and a lot of fun. Some impressions with the G 43 and STG 44 :)

I don't know why but older games(cod1,2,3 etc) like this with lower/darker graphics feel more atmospheric than newer today's games Really miss this

But nothing beats the stalingrad atmosphere of RO2. And in the case of DH only foggy or snowy maps, or dark maps like pariserplatz or kriegsdat have that immersive atmosphere, because all the others, especially daytime or sunny maps, just suck and feel like age of graphics. empire 3 but in first person.

It's dark, it's intense, bullets are flying around your ears, yes, this is Darkest Hour! Still one of the most immersive ww2 hardcore shooter I've played so far :D

it's better than both HLL and post scriptum to these days it just nailed the intensity and the chaos of ww2 combat also it's more realistic and authentic and have more vehicles than both of other game combines The Best ww2 realistic shooter still to these days period. BTW what was your favorite map Tiger my personal favorite was berlin bridge map LOL

@heyho2752 You just can't compare DH to HLL or PS, I understand if you're nostalgic or something like that, but for realism and overall gameplay, DH is dry dog poop next to HLL and PS. And DH might feel a lot more intense, because it has a run and gun arcade rhythm like a COD or DOD, but that doesn't make it realistic at all. While HLL and PS have bigger maps with realistic dimensions and it is slower pace but more like real war. And DH obviously has more tanks and more stuff, because those DH devs have basically stolen all the content from RO1 vanilla and custom, and from his other mods, so that comparison is unfair (and in fact the berlin map that you're referring to, kriegstadt, is originally a custom map of RO1). Also I prefer that there are few tanks, or even 2 tanks, but well modeled, detailed and that look real, instead of tons of tanks but ugly, with poorly detailed interiors and that look like toy tanks, like the tanks created by DH devs. And that also applies to the skins and everything in general. Basically everything original from RO1 looks good, but the DH content is ugly or crappy, just look at the American soldiers from DH, they are horrible, and they have the face of James hetflied but with leprosy or something.

a shame they got rid of the 100 player servers. No idea why, havent been back since. The immersion is hard to replicate with 70ish players

probably cause of the tick rate, it was awful even on 76 players so i cant imagine what it'd be like on 100.

@@tomfoolery6080 IIRC it wasnt too bad. The 100 player server was also in the US (im from the UK) so there was a slight lag but nothing gamebreaking major.

The game has never had 100 player servers, you are probably mis-remembering. The servers become extremely unstable past 75 players or so.

honestly still playing this game today and we were 68 on a snowy map, was just wholesome and chaotic, felt real enough, but I do agree if we were 100 it would be more amazing, but the game still good with 68 players

The mother of all hardcore shooters! I mean its a mod for Red Orchestra 1 but Darkest Hour got a logistics system like Post Scriptum since 15 years and damn that gameplay is still one of the most challenging i know. Great Video!!!

Weapon gameplay is really hardcore in DH its even more challenging than in Post Scriptum xD

@loki5072 No, DH is not the mother of that squad and logistic game system, the mother of all that is PROJECT REALITY. DH started out as a mod the same as RO1's mod, but starting with version 6.0 the DH devs started copying and adding all that PR stuff to DH. So PR is the father of HLL, PS and squad, not DH as many idiots believe. And neither is DH the mother of hardcore ww2 FPS, the mother of that is RO ostfront, because in fact DH the gunplay became quite similar to COD more and more.

1-2 servers are up from morning to middle of day. Weekends slightly longer. I'm on PST.

Usually get a full server everyday, for me its between 6-10pm GMT. Just need to find your timezone. Some servers have 72 slots which can easily be filled. Of course even more play on weekends when theres no work/school the next day

@@ivotorres4088 no se nota a simple vista (como mini teletransportaciones o algo asi), pero se nota cuando disparas, a mayor ping mas se demoran en golpear tus disparos, y ademas si tienes como 180 de ping, uno que tenga como 60 de ping te verá antes de que tu lo veas, eso se nota en mapas de choque como donner o cuando te topas de frente con alguien, por eso pareciera que los que tienen poco ping tienen habilidades sobrehumanas.

Been playing hll all week...it just feel less complete as a whole when compared to DH..there's a bunch of features that are missing ex: fixing bayonet,getting gun shot out of hands,lethal backblast from bazookas,being able to load up rockets for friendlies.. other than cool graphics it ain't got shiiz on DH, when I mentioned these features to the other players on hll many were mindblowed and wish/ed HLL devs would add such features

@@oiitzME1266DH has been around for so long. It also had Red Orchestra Ostfront to build on as a base. I feel like HLL could get where DH is if given the same amount of time. Sadly considering a lot of the backend stuff going on behind the scenes with HLL, I have a feeling it’s best days may already be behind it.
