Very cool concept but I'd be a little worried about complete dependance on the companion app. It's up to Darkglass to keep that app up to date and working and if it ever falls out of support you've got a very shiny expensive brick (well, I would hope it still works on the last profiles you set? but it still seems it's functionality would be crippled without the companion). I appreciate devices that utilise companion apps to make setting them easier like the Two Notes CAB M or HX Stomp with HX Edit, but total reliance on it makes me uneasy for something at that price point.
@raichoo2 жыл бұрын
Exactly my thoughts. I have the Element but set it up in a way that hopefully does not require me to ever change the settings again. I'm really not a big fan of the "everything is controlled via an app" trend. I'd take a pedal with lots of knobs over this every day. It's probably still a product that will scratch a lot of people's itches. Not mine, though. I'm perfectly happy with my "old school" Darkglass pedals 👍
@raichoo2 жыл бұрын
@@JVMC_ZR1 I'm aware that it's the Darkglass suite. It assumes that Darkglass will forever be maintaining support for older devices in the Darkglass suite. I've seen things getting EOL'd quite a lot. Time will tell if this is going to happen here as well. Anyway, I'm not always taking a computer with me to gigs or practice. YMMV and that's fine. I personally dislike depending on a piece of software on a computer or phone to be able to control my gear. Just feels wrong to me.
@squishy9492 жыл бұрын
@@JVMC_ZR1 True, I would hope the desktop app will last longer as breaking changes are much less common than on mobile OS's, but you're still relying on Darkglass keeping the software working into the future which is not guarranteed. It's a trade off for all that awesome functionality you get, but like I said it's amount of functionality here that's completely dependant on the app that worries me. But for that you get most of the functionality of a full pedalboard plus a 500W power head in one box so I can still easily see the appeal.
@wolfram43212 жыл бұрын
Take a cookie and don’t worry. This is the same topic as with every multieffect. Since decades this works fine. Zoom even offers updates to their effect boards and Darkglass will surely do also. And if they don’t make any updates? Than you stay with the current status which is already very interesting.

I bought the dark glass alpha omega amp. It had a defect where after 45 mins of playing the power cut in half, made it worthless. So I returned it for a micro tubes amp. This one had a defect where the thing wouldn't power on for an hour after turning it off, in addition to having the same defect as the last amp where the power cut in half after playing 45 minutes. I couldn't believe it. It's too bad, I really wanted the dark glass sound but this has forever tainted my perception of their product quality. Then I got a Mesa TT800 and an Orange terror guitar amp, and two orange cabinets. The neck pickup of my Ric goes to the Mesa and the bridge goes to the Orange terror. Put an fx loop on the 2nd Chanel of each of the two amps, and I the Main 5Chanel just use the orange overdrive and the Mesa low end. And it blows that dark glass junk out if the water. Maybe a rip off from TC, but things really went downhill with TonePrints once Behringer acquired TC. Hopefully Darkglass has the longevity to continue supporting this platform.
@boosted00792 жыл бұрын
@@krmr lol I didnt want to use the term "rip off". It leaves a negative vibe. At the time I couldn't think of a better description. But I will say the tone print thing just wasn't as user friendly as I would have liked it too be. I have one of the combo amps with 2 10" speakers and it's ok. Just wish I could use both tone print channels at once. I do however run my Darkglass pedal through the amp. And then use a spectra comp channel with it. It's ok. I had no idea berhinger obtained that company. That would explain why there hasn't been anything new from TC in over 4 years
@i_am_error_642 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way. I was (kind of still am) a huge fan of TC amps (still gig with RH450 and some RS cabs) but I had to give up on toneprint pedals and the BG line of amps. App was way too janky. Now being a DG owner i have high hopes for this amp where I see it not only as expanding upon what TC started but maybe even giving a better option in the realm of Helix/Kemper/etc but just for streamlined and slimmed down for bassists.

Well, kind of... The parts that are likely to fail are the fuses/switches or the power amp and they are no different from more conventional amps. And if the DSP circuit board fails then you can replace that as an entire component - although I realize that it might not be possible to obtain a replacement at a sensible cost. So I don't disagree with you but I think you're making the situation seem a bit worse than I see it.

I bought my e500 thanks this video. Questions about midi. May I use any midi foot switcher or will Darkglass release a midi pedal? Thank you for all your useful content, inspiration and community. Stay Free, Mark Add On: One concern. As a consumer of music gear my decisions are made from inspiration and followed up with research. My research will aim at insuring that I am aware of variations. In this case there are none that have these features. I suspect there will be a higher power made available and to therein I find the rub. Given the choice, when products have options I will choose the one with the most most. Most features, power, function and quality. And if there are improvements I wish consumers will be invited to trade in for an upgrade. If there comes a 900 or higher watt version eg. e900 or e1000, and I cannot trade in... well, I will be disappointed. Because I did what I always do. I followed up my inspiration with research and this was the most most e500. So I bought it. I hope I am making sense. All my best

I don’t think there will be a bigger version coming out. The new (self designed) power amps are so efficient, the newer 500W amps are actually louder than the older 900W models. I don’t think Darkglass is gonna make a midi footswitch, otherwise they would have released it at the same time.
