I gotta say, I love the design of this pedal. Obviously haven't tried it out yet, but the best thing about Darkglass is they are designed by Bass players so they know exactly what needs to happen functionally and sonically. Over driven top with compression control on the bottom end, I mean seriously? Fantastic design, excited to try it.

The thing I don't like about the Darkglass circuits is the thing I don't like about SansAmps; no matter what your input, what you get out sounds like the circuit. It doesn't sound like your bass, it just sounds like the pedal. That's not to say that's necessarily bad; hell, I run my SansAmp RBI with the blend full to the SansAmp side, always on. But it's not flexible in an objective sense. And while the Darkglass circuit sounds good as hell, it's starting to be the /only/ modern metal bass tone. Also, I'd love to see an evolution of the Microtubes X circuit's filter-based EQ with more flexibility; throw in a band-pass filter (option to switch it to a notch filter?), and include a resonance control for the three filters.
@udawggy5 жыл бұрын
On one hand I agree- they DO sound like themselves... however I started experimenting with running the drive really low... and it was my bass sound with just a bit of variable 'hair' on it. it actually worked like that (I snuck it into a gig tonight with a band leader who didn't like disco on bass and it won with flying colors. YES- it has a sound, but is also tamable.

so how'd it go?
@Lestakeo4 жыл бұрын
@@alahad Haha I do not know how to answer. It was an experience and as such I hope it will help me avoid making mistakes in the future. Darkglass-wise I still love the pedal and I may buy more of their brand in the future. Session-wise, I'm not a fan of my sound but it is entirely due to my lack of experience in knowing how to phrase what I want and knowing my own capabilities and what I can really sound like. I still prefer the sound I have live, I feel I have more control over it. If you want to give it a listen, we got two tracks out of it. The band is The Lost Files, "The Fourth Face" has a clip, "Three-Faced Cube" doesn't. It's on youtube, spotify, wherever. Hopefully next time will be better, and the next, and so on. I hope we'll be able to record in 2021 if Covid dissipates with another band of mine. Still, this pedal will be front and center when I record next. Hope I didn't bore you, take it easy !
@alahad4 жыл бұрын
@@Lestakeo oh no, you didn't bore me at all, as a musician myself I am experiencing sort of the same thing with my sound, specially because all 3 of my basses are so different, trbx305, squier pj and a squier j fretless, my sound is all over the place and my two bands are on hold due to covid. I will check your stuff out, at least you would've gained a view, thanks!
@alahad4 жыл бұрын
Ok I've heard the Fourth Face, I personally, being a three piece band, would have had my bass louder, little more mids. The style of the band is interesting, kinda like technical death metal without soo much growling on the voice.
@Lestakeo4 жыл бұрын
@@alahad Thanks for listening to it ! IT's the problem when we're many in a band and we don't mix it ourselves. The person that does the mix sends us the song, we each have to listen and come up with what to tell the guy to do next. It takes time and the longer it takes the more accustomed we get to the sound and the less precise we get. It was a nightmare to get the bass to be heard. I agree with what you said, I'd add that at the moment it is not defined enough, maybe it could lose some on the low end, that would help boosting it's overall sound without being muddier. I hope I'll be able to be more precise both in the way I play and in the way I express what I want whenever I'll be recording next. Thanks again for your time !

Sounds great! Did you have any issues with noise that was generated by the cab sim engagement? I've had two of the Ultra-series pedals now that have a terrible hiss that appears the moment you engage the cab sim. When you're playing, you don't notice it, but when there's a quiet part it's quite apparent. I've adjusted the cab-sim headroom in the DG Suite, along with adjusting the Master Volume to try and increase the headroom, to no avail. DG's recommendation was a noise gate :(
