If you count the genie ring on sonics ring finger, the other 7 go on all other fingers except his thumbs (really who puts rings on their thumbs). That's how he'd put them all on. Unless the genie rings is one of the seven (haven't played this game in a century but I think something like that happens, but I could be wrong)

Horrendously late, but the genie ring that Sonic wields is not one of the seven world rings because when he holds one of the world rings, a flood emotion floods through him. When he picks up the ring given to him by Sahara, It doesn't do anything special until he puts it on his ring finger, linking them together. The world rings also have a specific color pattern like the Chaos Emeralds. (Also, they glow too.) The genie ring just has a golden color to it, and it doesn't glow.
