It looked to me like 24 was right on the nose. In all seriousness, thank you so much for your videos Roger. I would imagine that at times you might feel concerned that you are being repetitive and need to try something new. I say just keep doing what you're doing. I find your videos inspiring and it never gets old. Cheers mate!

Pro tip : you can cut the 8x10 paper into four sheets of 4x5. That way it won't cost as much paper but you'll end up with the same results. The other thing that works for me is to buy some 4x6 paper that's the exact same brand and stock as your 8x10 paper and use that for test strips.

Ilford say 1L of working strength made up multigrade developer is good for 100 sheets of 8x10 RC paper. Seems like a stretch to me to use the same mix for 5-10 darkroom sessions or a whole box of paper. Will have to do some tests... Ok I have calculated 77 sheets left in my box. I will make up 1L of fresh and continue to use this for the remainder!

I know I shouldn't, but I often use Ilford Multigrade developer that is months old. Stored in a plastic bottle, no vacuum. honestly, it seems to take months before I notice exhaustion, as a result of time. Overuse on the other hand, seems more of an issue.

I also use a grain focuser. Here's a little tip I do to get image fine focused. Put a scrap paper of the same paper your going to use to print with on to the easel then focus. What your doing is taking account of the thickness of that paper before you focus.You could also cut paper the same bottom shape of focuser and tape it to the bottom of it. Anyways it's just what I do. Another great video Roger thanks for sharing.

It occurred to me during today’s darkroom session that the Kodak Projection Print Scale gives you a maximum black test every time you use it. I have a couple of these that I was gifted. I use them for test prints. I do my test prints with 4x6 paper of the same make and model so that I don’t waste an entire sheet of 8x10 or larger.

First, I do the same thing with film. When you load it into the developer reel, I keep about 2-3 cm of the film leader. I put the leader into a small glass and put developer in it. Beautiful portrait you shot :) I have a question...again... I have recently started shooting film again and this time went on developing my own film. Easy black and white photos and used for my first 8 rolls the Ilford monobath df96. From what I understand, not all developers are made equal. In this video, you say using Ilford multigrade and you shoot with a large variety of films, therefore different emulsions...That takes me to the question...finally: according to you, is important to match the developer to the film? Is there a one all be all developer? (that's two questions...pint is on me) :) Cheers
@ShootFilmLikeaBoss
@ShootFilmLikeaBoss 4 жыл бұрын
All depends on the film. Some specialist films such as Adox Silvermax and Cinestill Films and quite a few others it's recommended to use a particular developer which you'll find if you read up on that film. Common films such as your Ilford, Kodaks, foma, kentmere etc I use with either Rodinal or XTOL. If I want less grain on higher speed films I use Ilford Microphen and if I want less grain on slower speed films I use Ilford Perceptol.
