Always a treat to have you go in depth on these areas. Even when i was searching for just one specific part of it, you provide a valuable source to go back to. Thanks for making the darktable community strive

Will watch this later but just chipping in to say that, as a recent migrant from Lightroom, one of the things I really like about Darktable is the absolutely awesome masking flexibility and power. I'm still getting my head around colour management - even restricting modules to the scene-referred set there still seems to be a multitude of ways to go about things. But I'm starting to get my head around it and your videos (along with Boris Hadjukovic) have been of huge assistance. Thank you.

Parametric masks (or masking technic in general) are a powerful and complex tool in DT, so thanks for re-open this topic on your channel. I'm looking forward to watching ep 109.

With Multiply mode (and possibly others) the Blend fulcrum is very useful. It will make the whole image lighter (if you go to the right) and then you can adjust the opacity too. It's useful for adding contrast. It's well worth investigating.

Thanks for this. Followed all the way up to gradient mask. Mine covered the whole of the picture when I activated display mask and didn't look like the video, opaque at top and clear at bottom.
@audio2u2 жыл бұрын
Try increasing the hardness value, and then look at the mask again.
@maxinejones62452 жыл бұрын
@@audio2u Thanks for reply. I don't have a clear concept of what 'hardness' is or how to increase its value. By trial and error I eventually got the display mask to line up with the gradient line by pressing 'shift

Hardness is one of the controls in the graduated drawn mask.

Great video Bruce...I had a chuckle at your comment a lot has changed....Pascal added the ability to control individual nodes in brush masks to alter size feather etc at that level like a day or so ago...Boris demonstrated in his video a couple of days ago showing how a single brush stroke could mask a foot path of varying width....just when you think you are caught up with DT ...something changes..... One last comment...if you use reverse blending you do actually affect areas outside the mask and so your comment at the end of this video is essentially true in most cases but not all.....:)
@audio2u2 жыл бұрын
Todd, yeah I saw that you had posted Abbott the brush changes. But I'll cover that when it's in an official release. But thanks for the heads up! 😃

Hello Bruce, happy easter time. Thank you very much for your great tutorials, always very interessting. One question: How do you changed the appearance of the path to red (and a thicker line)? At my darktable it is grey (sometimes bad visible and very thin).
@audio2u2 жыл бұрын
I'm not at my machine right now, so this is just a wild guess... Have a look at the overlay settings, which can be accessed via the icon with the green and red crossed lines (lower right corner of the central part of the UI).

Bruce i also am working with Linux the latest version of dt does not see the camera? i do know that the 5d111 is supported thoughts ? thank you
@audio2u2 жыл бұрын
Does not see the camera? Are you shooting tethered? Or are you trying to mount the camera to your system to retrieve images from the memory card? If so, I'd recommend removing the card from the camera and mounting it in a card reader.
@cosmo00802 жыл бұрын
@@audio2u yes i am trying to shot tethered. i know the computer sees the camera however dt does not . i have 2 systems one running ubuntu another mint neither see the 5d3 as i try to shot tethered. again thank you

I'm a little out of my depth on this one, having not used the tethered shooting feature in dt at all. I don't even know if my a7iii is a supported camera.
