darkthrone's brand of black metal was to the death metal of the time what punk was to prog rock so i don't want to seem elitist but saying you don't like punk, it doesn't seem like you're ever going to get it. fun hearing your opinions though. and glad you like goatlord cuz that album always makes me happy. peace bruv PS rankings: 1. everything else ... 9. plaguewielder (basically ravishing grimness - one of my favs - but with dimmu-level production and less memorable and a stupid intro...command tho, fkn tune) 10. total death just cuz of nocturno's embarrassing lyrics, def has its moments though PPS idek how many albums they've done cuz lost count but 10 = least fav

Out of all the sub genres I struggle to get into black metal. The production is a put off for me for these early Darkthrone albums but I will keep an open mind and give them another listen.

Yeah when I started to listen to black metal the production was the main problem but the more you are exposed to that sort of production the more you will enjoy it. Once it clicks the production is no longer the problem you will hear melodies through the fuzziness one day haha. I was like you once haha

Darkthrone is one of my favorite bands of all time and they do have one of the more unique and varied discographies in all of Extreme music. They do have some Rough albums but they have so many amazing albums. WTF???? Admittedly not one of my favorite black metal bands, I do enjoy them though. Just lots of bands I like more. Definitely have Transylvanian Hunger and ABITNS as my two favorites though
