This is a copy of a story that was done on Suspense Radio during the 40's called "Back for Christmas". But it was much longer (30 minutes) and had a longer lead up to the murder. Hermione was going to build a rare orchid garden for Herbert in the cellar.
@calvinjackson538

She said I'd be back for Christmas. Can be taken two ways: He, the murderer would be back for Christmas because he would have to face murder charges when his wife's body would be discovered. Also she said WE WILL BE BACK, also meaning SHE TOO would be back. She would come back when they uncovered her buried body in the wine cellar. Her words were more prophetic than she realized. "You can rest assure, WE'LL BE BACK" is what she told her guests. It is so eerie how people can say things at a certain moment that actually turn out to be PROPHETIC. I have seen a picture of my two cousins: one a young girl of age 21 and beside her is a little boy age 10.The picture was taken in about 1968. It is just the two of them standing close together and the little boy of 10 is beside her. She is smiling. TODAY in 2019 as I write this, the older cousin is now 72 years old and she is taking care of the little boy( who is now 61) in her own home because he is disabled mentally. If you had told her in 1968 that she would have to take him in one day and be responsible for his care, she would have flat out denied it with strong rejection and disdainful laughter from utter disbelief. But it would turn out she would be more connected to that little boy than she could ever imagine! When I look at that picture today a cold chill comes over me how some times a sentence so casually spoken or a photo can be telling you about something that is GOING TO HAPPEN in the future! Life can be so VERY EERIE and STRANGE!

"Back for Christmas" is not only one of my personal favorites on AHP but is also one of my favorite short stories to read (especially around Christmas time). It's such a dark comic tale concerning a perfect crime and the darkly ironic ending for the murderer. I first heard this story on radio particularly on Escape in 1947 then on Suspense (Radio's Outstanding Theatre of Thrills) first in 1943 with Peter Lorre then in 1948 with Herbert Marshall and then once more Marshall appeared in 1956. I watched the TV version on Tales of the Unexpected and thought it was good but very different and of course I watched Hitchcock's version of this story and it was good at rhe beginning, the moments before Herbert killed Hermione, and the final twist at the end. The radio version with Peter Lorre is my favorite because he finally loses his mind after all those years of being dominated by his nagging wife. Listen to the 1943 version sometime and you can understand why the husband had to kill her.

Carmencita Davis It’s because of the advert. market. The Studio who owns these films can now reap the benefits without any obligation to have to show the whole film. They’ve been shortened to the prescribed attention span of the new American average of 10 minutes. Isn’t this a clever angle to make free money? .

Yeah as grateful as i am for this channel for the HD uploads of these classics, I have noticed they do this all the time. They will upload one part of an episode and not label it “part 1” or part 2 or whatever, and then a month later all of a sudden they will upload the second part again without specifying which half of the episode it is...or sometimes they won’t even upload the second half...so you’re basically left to guess which half is which, beginning or end. Ah well...
