I, too, am no pond building expert, but after watching your video, i have a few suggestions to help reduce the mud and sludge from building up at the bottom of the pond and trenches. 1. Plant some vegetation on the hill sides to reduce the amount of mud from being washed down hill into the pond when it rains. It will die as the waterline rises. The root might help the soil to be firmer. 2. Add a few brushpilies/dikes upstream of the ditch to collect some of the mud/sludge from flowing down into the pond. This will help keep the pond deep for a longer period of time. It will also help keep the fish habits from being filled up with sludge. 3. Burn the leaves in the "duck hunting area." This will keep the bottom from getting mucky as fast. An ounce of prevention is a pound of cure. Fix it now or fix it later.

Huston you may want to build some wood duck nesting houses. . They like trees with holes in them but in the water some houses will atrack ducks to nest. you have to use tin cones to keep raccoons from raiding them. Yes they will swim out to your nesting boxes.

3 to 4” inches of rain might fill the pond now but once those trees have leaves on them again it might take 4 to 5 times that much rain to fill the pond. Trees drink a lot of water during the growing season
@douglaswilliams4735
@douglaswilliams4735 18 күн бұрын
Have you considered putting the pond drain pipe in now, at the bottom of the dam with an elbow on the end in the pond? You could put a stand pipe on it at the correct length for the water depth. It would also allow draining the pond in the future without digging out the dam as you could pull the stand pipe off and drain it.
@knotengajin7359
@knotengajin7359 18 күн бұрын
Every earth mover I watch puts them at water level. I haven’t caught an explanation but this is probably because the pipe is a weak point for potential leaks to happen which would be very bad at the bottom, but easily fixed at the top.

After some "renovations" on a back yard pond we used to have, the biggest problem I had was the clay. The pond filled up before we could treat the bottom of the pond and we didn't drain it. It NEVER cleared up. Some ponds just get red after a rain and then clear up within a week, some just don't ever clear up. I'd recommend checking on what you might need to do to as far as putting something on top of the clay goes. You may need a different "liner" other than the clay. I never did that myself, and it was costly.
