I think we are all into visible mending now to add some decoration to our clothes. I love the sashiko best. So artsy!😊

Hello, it's been a minute since I last had to darn something., For my older model machine, I would use the open-toe foot. It allowed me to see where to direct the sewing needle. Now with these newer models of sewing machines view of sewing is covered by the sewing foot which can lead to another problem. Thanks for sharing the video.

ha ha....30 years ago, on an old less automatic machine, I did this Freehand with a single hole plate covering the fabric teeth, an embroidery hoop upside down holding fabric taut, cover the entire hole with only 2 directions at 90' , these new auto methods less tidy, & takes longer! :D I miss the creativity!

Thank you for your feedback! I prefer to use this darning stitch but yes, we can also use the all-purpose presser foot or free motion presser foot. If you want to use a regular presser foot - start darning by sewing a rectangle or a circle around the damaged area to form a frame (kind of) and then stitch (using a straight stitch or a zigzag stitch) back and forth across the hole repeatedly covering every bit of space. Rotate the fabric 90 degrees if desired for greater strength in this area before stitching perpendicular to first stitches. If you have a free motion presser foot (which is also called “darning foot” by the way) and can lower the feed dogs on your sewing machine then you can darn with your sewing machine too. But you will need to hoop the fabric first. Then outline the damaged area with stitching and sew back and forth until the hole is completely covered.
