I use D'Addario Strings, they do a fine job for me. I only recently started learning the violin this past February when I retired. I am in my early 60s and on a fixed income. My wife saved money for a couple of years to buy my violin for Valentines Day. When I was younger I had to work underground in the coal mines to support my family. She is letting me go back and relive the wishes of my childhood. She retires in 3 yrs. If the Good Lord wills it we will help her relive hers.

That distinction between the lower "sad" blues third, and the higher "defiant" blues third is very insightful. Bravo Darol Anger. And thank you D'Addario for producing a high quality video.

I find his utter insincerity when it comes to endorsing D'addario strings at the end hilarious!

Wow, I actually learned useful techniques here. I'm a blues violist from Chicago, and the precision in the emoting from light versus heavy pitch-bending and portamento gave me some good ideas. Thanks, there.

I am 25 years old and have been playing violin for 21 years and the past 4 have been playing blues rock jazz and folk. Nice intro to blues lesson however I still prefer the thomastik dominant strings with a solid E over a wound E due to the Incredible tone. Good job.

Yes, you can move the notes around unless you have frets on your fiddle.

the "minor " scale you show at 0:58 is not a minor scale because the 6th grade is+1 halftone, while in the proper minor scale that 6th would have to be lowered of 1 halftone, resulting in a F instead of a F# as played here. Anyway thankn you very much this video is very helpful I'm a pianist and just started violin, I'm finding this useful thank you very much! Also, you are a character, ahaha I laugh while watching your tutorials Darol, In a good sense :)
