Beatmania IIDX Hand Techniques Explanations/Examples

To put it out in writing my technique is as follows:
1: left ring
2: left middle
3: left thumb
4: left index/right index
5: right thumb
6: right middle
7: right pinky
for scratches it's like so:
1: Left thumb
2: left index
3: right thumb
4: right index
5: Right thumb/right index/right middle (need help...)
6: Right middle
7: right Pinky
I did this fairly late so i sound like a tard most of the time and leave out some key points such as HOW i scratch (which is shown above). And i also couldn't get the screen capture to work seeing as imovie hates AVI's produced from webcam. Hopefully i'll improve this later when i've got the time/ can be bothered

Probably the best video to improve beatmania techniques right now. Helped me jump from A'ing 8's and 9's to clearing 11's and 12s! A must watch if serious about Beatmania IIDX.

@nakallo sorry for the late reply. I've Full combo'd the dirty of loudness [a]. I basically palm smash the 3 4 5 6 and 7 keys with my right hand. and use the 1 and 2 to scratch. You CAN use your whole right hand to hit all the keys but i find that you tend to miss one or two keys if you do that or you can't time all the notes at the same time. Hope that helps out

I tried that technique last night, and dude you really improved my playstyle more. 5 stars for 'ya! Later on when I get the chance this weekend, I'll make a progression vid (not a Tatsujin vid) of me playing a song w/ that technique.

Cool. this is awesome. i'm still stuck at a style between DJ HOOD and TOTORO's left hand. My left thumb only gets to button 3 about of the time.

do you think that DJ HELL's style is any good, that's the one i've been using lately and i've been doing really good, but I'd like to try different styles to see what I can do, but I really do suck at using thumbs..

Quick question about technique. I noticed in the video that when you were playing you kept your fingers hovering over the buttons. When I play I usually keep my fingers on the buttons instead of over them. Is that a bad habit or does it matter? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you're hitting the keys I would highly recommend trying to make as much sound as you can when you tap. A lot of timing comes from the strength in which you hit the button. Just resting over the keys won't allow you to time accurately. I would highly recommend slightly hovering as opposed to resting you fingers on the keys

haha yeah did, it's not exactly a conventional method but basically if theres a 3+5 combination i just leave my thumb on the 5 key and hit the 1 and 3 button with my thumb alone. It's large enough to be able to cover two keys at the same time so it's not really an issue anymore. Mind you, in saying this i do still miss that combination 1/3 of the time, or time it incorrectly hahaha

@elmiyagi HELL's playstyle is a little bit odd. I mean it works and all but he uses ALOT of energy as he has to use 4 fingers to hit the buttons. If you watch denser videos of his (Like AA [a]) he uses his thumb as well. Thumbs really do help alot with denser patterns so i recommend using them as soona s possible. Just try to keep evolving your technique. Usually the general rule is the more fingers you use the easier it is.
