His playing is so layered and expressive, you forget you're listening to a solo artist.

this as all his other music really shows true great talent that many in today's country music are lacking. music like this very well may never get the air play as all the cookie cutter regurgitated crap of the so/called top 40 country music zaps out the life of truly great music. thanks for sharing and uploading this gem... There was no denying the fire in his eyes It was more than Pueblo whiskey It was more than a lonely night Two hundred miles from home Perfectly alone There were no apologies in his pocket It was right there on his hand A golden wedding band Their hearts began to pound Oh, but he stood his ground She lights a candle for a cowboy And wonders why she's so alone He was a man of his word It was one she'd never heard He was the only man who ever said, "No" She said, "Is there nothing I can do to please you?" Then he said, "You make love and sound so easy And it's hard to turn away And even harder to stay and either way I go Oh, it's gonna be a long ride home" She lights a candle for a cowboy And wonders why she's so alone He was a man of his word It was one she'd never heard He was the only man who ever said, "No, no, no, no" And as he walked out the door She loved him all the more She lights a candle for a cowboy And wonders why she's still alone He was a man of his word It was one she'd never heard He was the only man who ever said... He was the only man who ever said, "No"

It was only the promise of something equally amazing, at least, in the offing from Darrell that tore me away, finally, from the beautiful 'Someday' in this same session. I am typing this without having yet heard 'Candle For A Cowboy'. Suffice to say it will be amazing. Thank you Darrell.

Thank god there has always been a huge dividing line between real honest music & pure garbage made for making money off deaf ears and no soul fakers, It allows us to be apart from all that . Darrell is not rare as they're are many greats like him ,ones that give us that glimpse into human nature that sets us apart from the commercial side of music that truly has no real clue what soul and compassion are. Plus there is a side that exemplifies what true musicianship is really all about , see there's no need to compromise, just play well and good ears will hear ..

Paul, I was wondering what to write in my comment about this song and Darrell Scott's genius, then I read your excellent comment. Ya know what, I agree with every word you wrote, if Darrell ever came to Ireland he would be made King.

***** Thank you Mike, It just so happens two of the greatest guitarists I ever listened to came from Ireland , I miss them both greatly Rory Gallagher & Gary Moore. As for Darrell he is one true blue musician with no ego or commercial goals . He has done some fine things on the Transatlantic Sessions if you have not heard them they are posted on YT & well worth checking out. Again thanks for the kind words. By the way you may want to check out another great songwriter named Blaze Foley, he is no longer with us but his music sure is.

paul levine Yeah, Gary Moore grew up near me, Rory and Gary could play for sure. Thanks for Blaze Foley tip, I've just spent an hour Listening to this genius of a man, shame it ended the way it did, Blaze and me had a lot in common, check out some of my cheap recordings by hitting youtube on my profile page. Thanks again Paul, I'll be checking out Blaze more often.

paul levine, very well said! Yes, Mr. Foley... Sure do miss him. So many greats indeed for the music purist. Jeffrey Foucault is yet another with the similar sensitive passion as Darrell Scott, with his works. Caitlin Canty is another of such conviction to the senses. That opportunity to truly escape & begin painting the minds canvass...
