The 3 sounded great for me, to be honest. But I liked the strat the most in general. I always had the idea of the Tele bridge being the most distinctive tone of these Fender models but in this particular video the Start sounded great too in the Bridge, so all in all I´d choose the Strat.

@traviswrigg51582 жыл бұрын
Some of it is how right they got it in the first place, some of it is just the image and prestige they earned by having [[INSERT YOUR FAVORITE MUSICIAN GROWING UP HERE]] playing them, but probably the most of it is that sound engineers have had 70 years to figure out how to mix them. Famously a lot of recording studios own a precision bass that sits on the wall for when a bassist with some fancy expensive bass just can't sit in the mix properly
@Thoracius2 жыл бұрын
@@traviswrigg5158 *Most* of it is that they got it right in the first place. It doesn't take 70 years of mixing lineage to figure out how to mix a P-Bass. It just sounds good in a mix -- it does the work for you. That's why it became a hit then, and that's why it's still a hit today. It's also just the nature of survivorship. The models that didn't sound great didn't sell and got discontinued or have been changed to sound better. It's like any antique. You look at antiques and you think, wow back in the day they really made stuff to last. But that's because all the poorly made junk from the olden days is in a landfill. It's the good stuff that survives.
@traviswrigg51582 жыл бұрын

OK... this is a bit strange... For the clean stuff, hands down the Tele is the winner for me. For the dirt, it's the Jazzmaster across the board, with the Tele a close second. That is not what I expected. Look, I'm a Strat guy, though I do have one Tele... But all of my Strats have at least one humbucker and that's a an absolute necessity for me. I suspect the results would have been skewed more toward the Strat had it had a humbucker. Still, this was a surprising and very interesting tone test. Well done, as always, Darrell.

I'll just have to have all three of these great instruments and pull out the Jazzmaster for the likes of Pipeline, Wipeout, Bomborra and the like - even if these weren't played on the original record with a Jazzmaster, I think this guitar has the vibe for that music, but not only that music. The strat is a NEARLY perfect instrument. I own teles, jags, a vintage fender lap steel, have built several jazzmasters, the works...but I always return to my strats at the end of the day. The neck pickup is untouchable, the 2 and 4 positions are sent from the heavens...its only weakness is that godawful, thin bridge pickup. But guess what? You toss a tone zone s or a jb mini in there and BLAMMO. The guitar gods instantly present you with a perfect instrument. There’s nothing you can’t do with a good strat. I’ve played gb jazz sets, dance sets, prog rock, thrash metal, shoegaze...my number one strat eats it all for breakfast. The only guitar in my stable that bests it is the custom 24. That’s a guitar that comes perfect from the factory. By the way, this means absolutely nothing in the way of diminishing the beauty of a good telecaster. A good, stock telecaster will probably get you farther than a stock strat. Its biggest strength is the strats biggest weakness. That bridge pickup...the telecaster bridge pickup is the sound of rock and roll.

the telecaster for me has the better neck pu sound and the better in-between sound, so for me a telecaster is closer to the perfect guitar than a strat. i think both guitars are capable of doing any genre and are equally versatile. they both cover p much the same ground, just slightly different variations of the same thing. the strat can get more sounds, especially if you go crazy with coil taps/splits and the gilmour mod, but i always use all 3 pu combinations pretty equally on a telecaster. i rarely use certain sounds on a strat. usually just neck and middle, none of the in-between stuff (i know its blasphemous), and maybe the bridge pu if its a humbucker. tbh i think any guitar can do any genre as long as its played right and eq-ed right
@asdaven12 жыл бұрын
@@sunkintree And add a baseplate to the bridge P/U to make it more like a Tele pickup. Alot of people that put a humbucker or humbucker models have it in the bridge. I wonder if theyve ever sold a Strat model with a Tele Bridge pickup. The Jazzmaster seems closest to a Stratocaster but thicker like a Tele. Alot of the tones that are played on Jazzmasters seems like you can get a similar tone on a Strat. Strat and Tele is a bigger difference.

It seems to work with every style of music well. 2) Telecaster - Every time I hear a tele, I hear a country twang. I like country, so I like this. I can understand why so many country players like this Guitar. 3) Jazzmaster - Not familiar with at all, but I did like the crystalline quality of the high notes. But, for me, the Strat Pos 2 completely NAILED it. (even better than the neck alone) The Jazzmaster was a VERY very close on the neck PU though, to my surprise, as i normally dislike too bright PUps. Thats why i liked it best too, with the tone-dial down. Distorted sounds and in the Mix : Again the Jazzmaster was very good, namely on the solo. (And you musicality too!, Darrell. Kudos! ) :) That tone really shines and cuts through the mix. To me, on the heavier stuff, the Tele still rules, as well. I conclude that i need : -> a Strat for neck and middle&neck positions in CLEAN tones (its neck PU is just a hair behind the Tele's too) -> a Tele bridge in both clean and high gain and neck clean AND both PUs clean (so yes.. i need a Tele ..hehehe) -> a jazzmaster is my favourite body shape, of the 3... and that neck PU..yes!.. so i would really go for its neck PU on a 2nd guitar ? So.. #1 -> T-Style with a traditional Fender Bridge & Bridge PU ; and a Seymour Duncan P-RAiL on the neck #2 -> Fender Jazzmaster body with a Strat traditinal SSS arrangement Any further suggestions, people ? PS : Thank you again, Darrell . This was SO helpful.

I'd be glad to see a Jaguar. It's like an underrated bro of Jazzmaster and it sounds really interesting.

i had a strat in my hands at a guitar store… it was white on white and i was just about to buy it when something caught my eye… it was a jazzmaster. i asked the dude if i could play it… 15 minutes later…? walked out with a brand new fender jazzmaster noventa that sound blew my mind. you know how they say you’ll know when you find YOUR guitar? it’s my guitar.

If I had to pick just one, I'd go with the tele. Like you, I love the tele bridge pickup, and I also like the tele's simplicity: hard-tail, three position switch, volume and tone. For me, that's the sweet spot between versatility and straightforward simplicity. (All that said, I'd be happy playing any of those three guitars.)

Not to mention, that Teles are more functional than strats because of their tuning stability, well-mounted bridge saddles and the option to install a 4-way switch so you can run the pickups in-series for some sweet humbucker-ish tones.

Awesome as always! "The Telecaster bridge reigns supreme always and forever", AMEN! If only I could get that tone out of a Strat body without dropping 300USD on a Warmoth hybrid body! I wonder how Strat pups like the Twangbanger compare to a real Tele bridge?

I saw an ad for guitar-a-thon and metal music was playing in the background while ukuleles and Acoustics were being shown off... what year am I living in

I agree ...Cannot beat a tele bridge pickup. Plays and cuts through everything. Broadcaster CS bridge I think is my favorite one.

Ahh I gotta go with the strat on this one my man! But they all sound awesome!

The Strat always seems to get the limelight but there is something wonderfully simple / work horse like about the tele. It just does its job with no fuss! String changes are easy and it stays in tune when you break a string. I LOVE the fact that you can get the coolest jazz sounds out of the neck yet get all that twang too on the back pickup. Wonderfully diverce yet ridicously simple.... but..... you cant get that second position inbetween naisily sound that you get from a strat!!!! AH!!!!!!!!!!! OK...so one of each it has to be! Awesome video

I have been a strat lover since starting 20 years ago, but 5 years ago I built a tele and was then devoted to both those models. Then I got a used jm, and I love them all now! Actually in the last few years I haven’t really played a guitar that I didn’t like, I think they are all better than when I started playing! I love your putting these together in one video thank you!

For some reason I can only play guitar models played by Jimmy Page haha. No but for real he’s my guitar hero so if I were ever to go to fender it would be a tele. Love these comparisons, all three sound good in your hands! keep it up!

I fell in love with that Jazzmaster., I have always thought there is something special about the unique sound of Jazzmaster pickups. That candy apple red, OMG !, so beautiful ! The Bigsby just sets it off.

I remember being 15 years old and had $800 to spend on a guitar at guitar center, I went in thinking it was gonna be a strat or a tele, my dad was with me and said hey what about that guitar, a standard black mex jazz master... at first glance wasn’t a fan, but man when I plugged it in after playing the tele and the strat, my ears were turned on to something the other guitars were lacking. I’m 25 now, and have yet to own a more pleasing guitar. It’s tone is different then any other guitar, but the trick them is to how to make em shimmer just right...

I’m a metal player, so I like the Strat a bit more. I put a Hot Rail in my Squier Strat and it’s my main guitar for heavy down-tuned stuff.
@SideEffectsmusic6 жыл бұрын
See I'm looking for something that I can use for Metal type stuff but then also pop punk or Punk. Strats good for that? Whats a hot rail?
@EvelynRoods6 жыл бұрын
strats are really good for that. A hot rail is a single coil sized humbucker. They are very nice. I believe the guys from Iron Maiden use them.
@SideEffectsmusic6 жыл бұрын
@gheddi Yeah I've been looking for humbucker versions of whatever guitar I'm looking at.

I wouldn't have thought stock Strats would be much good for metal. Maybe a SuperStrat, but I thought metal was better through HBs. But if it works, rock it!

Got 1 of each - built a Strat and a Tele from MJT bodies and Musikraft necks... Seymour Duncan Antiquities in both - absolutely the best playing and sounding guitars I've ever laid hands on... Honestly - if you're competent and take some care, you can easily surpass Fender AVRI level instruments for less money. I'd even go so far as to say they're on par with customshop's. My Jazzmaster is a Fender Roadworn I bought NOS from a shop in Winnipeg (it had been on the rack for 4 years) and got a good price on it(70% of retail) - generally a nicely put together guitar, but definitely notice a few areas for improvement. I'm in the process of redoing the electronics and will give it a full fret job before putting it all back together. I was really impressed with the sound of the Jazzmaster and am very glad I picked this one up. at the moment it's set up with 10's (I believe) - planning on stringing it with 11's and will see how the bridge likes the 11's. LOVE each of them for their own reasons.
