Dear Darren, This may not reach you, but I'd like to leave this letter to you here. Thank you Darren, for existing in this world and being open about your mental health and childhood trauma. Last night's concert in Brisbane was my dream came true, ever since I first heard your song two decades ago in Japan. I got so emotional as you shared your personal journey. You have no idea how much your songs had helped me and still helping me to this day, surviving my own childhood trauma, abuse, and depression. I'm an artist myself and I agree with you, it's “a blessing, a gift and a curse all at once". Our art, sensitivity, and deep compassion have power to heal others, but that is like crystals of what our deepest pain had transcended into. It doesn't come easily. I see the glimpse of your deep sensitivity to all of your word choices in the songs, and how pure your soul is, to still see the beauty in the world and people. I don't know you personally, but I wish we were friends and we could have deep conversations about art, creativity, spirituality, culture, and about the world. I appreciate you for all your beautiful work, saving lives through your music and brightening up people's rough days. Some universe's coincidence, I live in Gold Coast and was able to come and see you last night. I moved to Gold Coast 8 years ago because Japan constantly overworked me and the society made me overthink every single thing I did, and I suffered from severe depression and I couldn't take it anymore. I ran away. And last night at your concert, I felt that I was meant to go through all of that, to be here in Australia so I could see you and hear your beautiful voice, and hear your stories in real life. I was just a blob in the crowd for you, but you were the light for me. Thank you again for staying alive and choosing to survive. When I was a child my father shouted at us, threatened violence, and then carried out those threats. I was terrified of him and still have PTSD, causing horrifying hallucinations then and now while I'm awake, Night Terrors while I'm asleep, and relationship issues all the time. I felt loved by the music of Savage Garden early in life and the validation in Darren's music helped me be brave enough to try to love people and to never be my Dad. Thank you Darren, for still reaching out and loving with your art. I still face passing on my "Poison Blood" and still choose to live with it every day through pain, tears, and terror. Thank you Darren, for baring your soul so selflessly. It helps others like me to realized the crushing weight of depression is not my only “gift.” And, I’m not alone. I feel like my ”sensitivity” is such a burden. For OTHERS to carry, and accept. Constantly shifting from purple to black. Just lost my mom a week ago today, June 19th 2022. I was with her everyday (sometimes 2 to 3 times), and called her every day too, in the last nine months of her dementia. She remembered me two days before she passed, and said “I love you too Ton(e).” And it’s just so hard to break the damn surface anymore. That bitch depression keeps grabbing my foot, and pulling me back down, barely giving me a gulp of air. Love the homage to Prince’s, When Doves Cry. Hope you do a cover, or homage to George soon. You would really do him justice. Sorry this is a long ramble. Also, I lost my Dad when TDTWM came out. Still have difficulty listening to Maybe. Even though it’s one of my favorite songs. I could 'feel' all his emotions when he singed with Savage Garden. I played their album again and again for months, I was depressed too, still am, and when he said his father was alcoholic snd violent, I knew all what he felt, all that sadness that you can still see in his eyes. Once again Darren you amaze me x I almost always identify with your songs. I always said it's like you have lived inside my head, my heart for years and years and then come out of me and written what you observed. That's what i once told an old therapist. OMG Darren! I joined the live Instagram chat at 2.50 am this morning (I think you saw me) but being the old man I am I fell asleep. Just sat back and watched the video on my big TV. This is truly a visual masterpiece. It actually enhances how beautiful the song is when I loved it so much already. The colours in the video are truly beautiful, you look amazing. I love the tribute to Prince’s When Doves Cry. I love how when it gets to the bridge we get to see you inside the TV. And I really appreciated the metaphor with the water almost covering your face (and you look really beautiful and pretty) and how our depression almost covers it up. Then when you submerge in the water fully it’s a metaphor for when we all get swallowed up in our depression. But the best moment is when you pull yourself out of the water is you conquering it in that moment. I also love that humans have baths to clean themselves every day. And we deal with our depression every day. The entire concept is genius. The video is truly beautiful. Darren as a long time very passionate fan you should be very proud of this piece of art you have created. Definitely one of your most relatable songs you’ve written. I think a lot of people will connect with this. Definitely some of your best work. I’m so proud of you and your talent and I just love you and connect with you so much. Thank you for the gift of you. We need you ❤
