Nah, KOTOR 2, we, the players, are The Force guiding The Exile down whatever path we desired and that the final boss (if you know, you know) was playing us the whole time.

I still remember 14 year old me playing this and getting this twist... never saw it coming but had the same realizations you were in the reveal and thought 'it can't be...' when they revealed you were Revan. My jaw was on the floor. Memory will live with me forever, great moment in gaming.

To put it perspective for me when I first saw this, I had a feeling I was a fallen Jedi, a Sith. Not the Sith Lord! It's like realizing that you were once the Emperor.

I consider this to be a better twist than "No, I am your Father!" I put it together, but just few minutes before, when Karath whispered something to Carth. The game does excellent job of giving you enough clues so reveal makes sense regardless of knowing the twist before hand.

I consider the "I am your father" reveal to be superior in every way. This is because, despite the Revan reveal being one of the best twists in Star Wars, Revan is not related to Malak at all. Therefore the difficulty of confronting Malak is negated because he knows he is more powerful than Malak. In Empire, however, despite knowing that Vader and Anakin are the same person, you can understand how Luke's perception changed even greater than that of Revan. Before Vader says: "I am your father," Luke is fighting the man who killed Obi-Wan, the man who killed his father. Fast forward a year to Return of the Jedi, and Luke is now fighting his own father, whom he attempts to bring back to the Light Side. The reveal in Empire works just as well today as it did back in 1980. And in 1980, the prequels didn't exist yet, which is why the "I am your father" line worked there. Nobody suspected that Vader was Luke's father. The only people who knew this twist besides Mark Hamill, David Prowse, and James Earl Jones was George Lucas and Irvin Kreshner (the director of Empire). George Lucas asked everybody to leave when filming the reveal, and only he and Kreshner were in the room when that happened. Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher only found out about this when the film premiered on May 5th, 1980. Now, more than four decades later, the "I am your father" reveal still works.

Revan: They told me enough! They told me you killed him! Malak: No. YOU are Darth Revan. Revan: No, that's not true! That's impossible! Malak: Search your feelings, you know it to be true. Revan: NOOOOOOOO! Empire: Vader: If only you knew the power of the Dark Side. Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father. Luke: He told me enough! He told me you killed him! Vader: No. I am your father. Luke: No, that's not true! That's impossible! Vader: Search your feelings you know it to be true. Luke: NOOOOOOO! George Lucas: That's like poetry, so that they rhyme.

This is a better twist than the Vader reveal purely on the grounds that the ending to Empire Strikes Back has been parodied and quoted so many times it’s almost impossible to escape it in pop culture. Everyone and their mom knows the Vader reveal. This reveal managed to be kept secret well enough that new players can realistically experience it without being spoiled by pop culture.

I remember the first time I played kotor I thought Revan's spirit was giving my character a message, about the star forge and it needs to be destroyed but when Malak revealed that my character was Revan I was like: "HUH?! I WAS THE DARK LORD THROUGH OUT THE ENTIRE TIME?! AIN'T NO FUCKING WAY!" Looking back it that was a magnificent plot twist in every game history.

I love how this moment managed to catch all of us by surprise when we first played it, haha. It was such an obvious play, I didn't think it would happen, didn't even consider it would be real, haha.

I remember the good old days of Legends when there were Jedi games where we played characters who inexplicably became Force Sensitive in adulthood a la Kyle Katarn. When I started KOTOR, I thought my character was just another one of them. And the surprise was HUGE.

I still get chills when the reveal happens, even if I have played the game already dozen times. All the subtle hints dropped before suddenly make complete puzzle!
