It is actually recognized that Darth Plagueis (Hego Damask II) was the most powerful Sith of all. On the other hand, his apprentice Darth Sidius (Shiev Palpatine) was never able to overcome his power, which is why he was only able to kill him by treason after having yielded to him and electrocuted him to death with force rays while he was yielding.

Wrong. Plagueis is only stated to be stronger than his predecessors. He was _*_the most powerful Sith who had ever existed._* _Source: Death Star_ And Sidious has far more stating him as the strongest Sith in history. If you actually read the damn novel you would know it outright states Sidious already surpassed Plagueis and killed him that way to maintain secrecy.
