So amazing you didn’t let this stop you and began dominating with your left hand ❤

Interesting to see it for darts players. I was introduced to the phenomenon as _The Twisties_ during the Rio Olympic Games. The number of sport-specific terms has only grown from there, though _The Yips_ seems to be fairly common.

I went through this exact same thing. Took me almost 6 years to be able to throw with my right hand again. What helped me was no light on the board, 200 balls of paper just big enough to be in my fingers and threw them for an hour a day for 6 months. This allowed me to start being able to throw that being said my first dart is still a bit hard to let go.

I had 4 years ago during Covid in my right arm, what worked for me was just chucking it at the board, no aiming at anything just normally throwing in different grips or different ways and just letting the dart fly

Thanks for shedding a light on this, I really enjoy watching your left handed throw though, really smooth👍 What interests me is: do you experience this when playing alone, too? So, just throwing a few darts for fun, maybe round the board all alone at home, or is this related to live streams/competitions only, when there‘s people watching you?

Went through the same thing kept trying but since it didn't go away I swapped to my left, didn't fit me but had no choice. After some time tried right again and I could throw again, now struggling in the averages tho only 30- 40 😅

I'm 53 and I started with severe Dartitis when I was 19 . One of the best players In my region . Started by hitting low on board 3's 19' 17's etc to point I started hitting floor and skirting board in bedroom .. People say just throw and it bloody annoys me . Yes u believe it is or becomes a mental problem but o have to ask why did it appear in first place when I could throw so fluently . I do still play and have had some success , I just had to change my throw , stance , everything but no where near as good as I was . It totally affected my throw regards follow through etc . My throw just not natural anymore . Like this video I'm exactly the same when I throw with my non dominant hand , I can grip dart any way I want and I have had 180 with my left but I just cant get the stance or line up right just feels totally awkward. Straight to the Point darts practiced for 3 years with his left hand after he had Dartitis and plays really well . He even coaches professionals .

It got me again couple days ago. Mine is bipolar, it can last a day or a week. Then I get in a more relaxed mental state and everything fine. It's almost like darts is a mental well-being alarm for me😂

I also got this some years before... try to take a paper and cover the board with it. Throw some darts at the paper until you feel confi. Thats it

I never knew this was a thing 🤯 and to read the comments has shocked me how many people experience this. Can anybody shed some light on why this happens? Thanks

Nobody actually knows, and psychologists have just started to study this. There is an assumption that it's because you get to a point in your game where you are able to throw close to pinpoint accuracy as your practice has "locked" your muscles, vision and brain into the shot. Due to anxiety, excitement and low confidence your brain might interpret that you're going to miss and kicks in with a sort of "block" preventing you to throw at all. Sort of like a glitch or a bug in the software. You need to fool your brain so it lets you take control of your muscles again. Throwing aimlessly, throwing in the dark and throwing paper or balls at the wall seems to help but it takes a long time and you might never be able to play as well as you used to. On the other hand, some who get over it actually manage to improve their game exponentially.

Took the board off the wall and taking a 6 month break. It got so bad that I have 0 control on where the dart is going. One set I’ll just miss a crisp 140, next set I’ll try to hit a single 20 and hit a low 3 or 17 because my fingers won’t release. It’s frustrating and has sapped all the fun out of the game.

Throw without aiming at anything particular after a while it goes

It’s defeated me was a top player for years in my region, not sure how it started but could not beat it had to put the darts on the shelf sadly
@noahfreegard13003 ай бұрын
dont give up, you can beat it just keep going
@the_wrong_wang28903 ай бұрын
You can beat it mate, some people develop there own rhythm to overcome it, couple of our local players have beaten it, it is possible.
@johngray14543 ай бұрын
When I practice it’s smooth as can be but as soon as I play a game with meaning I can’t release and I end up leaning forward often stepping over the oche with my arm way out to the side, hardest thing to deal with, to others watching they say don’t worry so much just let them go but it’s not as easy to do
@Paltheus3 ай бұрын
@@johngray1454 I quit the circuit and and leagues and gave up for a number of years. I'm back now, 3-4 darts away from my original average - but playing smoothly. I would recommend staying away from serious competition and "team" events - However, I also do recommend you play small individual local tournaments and pub events (if you have them anywhere near you). Just go to socialize - have a few beers and a chat. Don't bother about winning (or your dartitis) - just play, as in your practice. See what happens when you remove the competition anxiety and responsibility towards your teammates. One more thing; if it gets bad while you play this way take 2-3 weeks off and try again.

Have you tried using some kind of sensory cue to reengage your throw, like a metronome or rhythmic music, or a blinking light or something? These sensory cues help people who have behavior initiation (like freezing gait) in conditions like Parkinson's disease.

Nonetheless, I'm so impressed with your progress throwing left handed. You have such amazing dedication and your content is excellent!
@Paltheus3 ай бұрын
That appears logical but it seems that the opposite is more helpful. The rhythm and muscle memory is "locked" so in my opinion you need to "break the lock" and learn to play again. Although I had very serious dartitis I managed to overcome the condition. I don't play as well as I used to but I'm getting there. I'm not an expert and this conclusion is drawn purely from my own experience and what has helped other people I know.
