Dartmoor Summer Swim, Sunset and Wild Camp

Hello lovely people!!!
I hope you are all well!
I absolutely loved this wild camp back in August on what really did feel like an actual Summer's day after weeks of wind and rain I was so blessed on this particular camp!
I have wanted to go back to the Black-a-Tor Copse area for ages and this seemed like the perfect opportunity so I was close to a water source for drinking and swimming lol! The sunset was a complete bonus so I couldn't just sit by the river and miss the full glory of it so just had to climb (part way) up Black Tor (which I refer to as Black-a-Tor throughout my video so apologies for that LOL!!) but it was not a wasted climb! Man alive that sunset was absolutely spectacular and having not seen one for ages it was so special!!! I was also so excited to be able to share it with you all!
I just loved this camp and hope you enjoyed coming with me!!

P.S Sorry! Someone has pointed out that I forgot to add details about the parking! So I parked in the main Meldon Reservoir car park and the prices have gone up since I first used it and while there is a parking app you can use (RingGo) it only lets you pay for the rest of that day, not the next day too. The advice from the Dartmoor National Park is that if you are camping overnight you need to pay for parking for both days which makes sense.
The prices (for cars, at the time of filming this video) were up to 3 hours is £3.00 and over 3 hours is £5.00 between the hours of 10am and 6pm. My advice is to take coins with you so you can pay for two days parking. You have been warned lol! What I had to do was use the app to pay for the rest of the day I arrived and I bought another ticket to cover me for three hours the next day, so basically I had until 1pm the next day as I did not have enough coins on me.

So gorgeous 😍Some of my favourite camps have been those with water right there for a dip. This was such a beautiful location, it's so nice that we have that choice of hills or valleys isn't it :D Double Choc Mocha's are the best!! They get me going every morning that I'm out on a camp haha. What a sunset that was! Hate when you have to force a rehydrated meal down because it would be too heavy to carry around 😄 #hikingproblems. Much love Pink Lady Xx

Hi Karen, Just thought you and your audience might be interested in this. You mentioned that the “Be Your Own Barista” containers can be reused, I can now confirm they most defiantly can be. For those backpackers who want an authentic caffeine hit, this is the way to go, a bit fiddley to clean out but worth it for the taste. I have been using the little vacuum packed mini pods (like the those that begin N and ends espresso) which keep forever. When you have finished the container rolls up neatly and weighs less than…………. well, a sausage. Thank you for showing this company off in your video. Cheers Graham

What a fab walk in and man that looked one dam cold dip but once you were in, you could tell you sure were loving it. I have done several dips before with friends and my son but feel a bit of a fraud as each time it was boiling hot, so it was bliss to cool off. Despite being totally US at cooking, the boil in the bags always look so awful but at the end of the day, I suppose it is the tabsolutely

I walked down that same path by the reservoir before and realised it was the wrong way and had to walk back past the same people 🤣 that sunset mus have been even more awesome in real life, you look quite flustered after. Hi Karen, Im Grant Im loving your channel, keep up the good work. You mentioned on this episode about being bitten to death my mosquitoes. Im ex 22 years British army special forces and I teach bushcraft skills at the Eden project here in Cornwall. Main problem with being bitten to death is pitching up next to water sources in the summertime Mossies and horse flies love the water. top tip, three days before you go anywhere eat fresh garlic in 2 meals a day and pack and eat fresh garlic when your preparing meals when camping. Garlic is the best natural insect repellent on Earth. Jungle formula insect repellent is the best one on the market. when you buy jungle formula make sure you buy the UK and Europe one Also, do not wear perfumes or scented deoderants, that attracts the little critters. Hope that helps you enjoy the great outdoors.

Dunno about time-lapse, but, if you’re taking stills of a sunset on your I-phone, tap the screen- it brings up a yellow square with a vertical scroll bar on the right. Slide the scroll bar down to ‘darken’ the shot & it ‘over-reads’ the oranges & reds in the sunset- making it even more awesome 😯👍.

Hi Karen. I visited Foggintor quarry this week and noticed a sign on the gate saying no camping. Do you know if that is enforceable under the change in recent laws re wild camping on Dartmoor ? P.s i wont hold you accountable legally for your advice 😂

It’s not in the permissive area on the Dartmoor camping map so still officially off limits. We don’t want to pee anyone off and while the Darwalls are planning on tying to go to the Supreme Court to appeal it the camping map isn’t going to change. 🙄
